Silkie thread!

Its supposed to get down to 37 tonight. There are 7 silkie eggs in the box. I brought them in because the hens are just laying not broody. Im going to put them back in the morning since they may be laying a clutch. Is that okay?

That will probably be fine, but you can put a bunch of golf balls in one nest to see if they will go broody, and keep the eggs inside at controlled temperatures (I think its 55-65 deg?) and turn them three times a day. You can keep them up to 10 days without degradation, but after that the hatch-ability of the eggs is less and less each day.

Okay. She has been burying them in the hay. I found two of the seven way down under the bedding. The one laying definitely pays attention to the box, but hasn't gone broody, that's why I was thinking she was maybe laying a clutch.

Interesting. I was going to buy an incubator, but I would like to see what she does. The eggs are in the house tilted in an egg carton butt up right now. lol So I will put them back with her in the morning and see what happens.

I came home today and found a 5 days old silkie dead and another not moving around as much as usual. The crop was mostly full. Looked normal. They have only been on papertowels since hatching and only had medicated chick start, vitamin b complex and Nutri Drench. Any ideas? Their poops look normal. Any ideas?
