Silkie thread!

Well Cricket my black hen is growling and pecking at the partridge baby, don't know if its the different color from her baby or that they are a week apart, I removed her from the broody area the two chicks still have to Moms so I think they will fine even tho I think the blue chick likes cricket best I think it will adjust Lilly's been raising it all along too. Cricket is standing there looking in talking to the blue baby makes me feel so bad even tho I'm mad at her for being mean to the little partridge. Any thoughts? I could try blocking off another spot for her and giving her the blue baby put it would be a pain and make it hard for me to get in and clean. Should I just let her get over it?

I may be mixing you up with other posters, but my thoughts are your problems are because of the way you keep these hens. I might be wrong, but I get the impression that these moms are first-time moms and you have them housed together. Didn't you let them brood and hatch the eggs with the regular flock? New moms, all new moms including humans, need privacy and a stress-free environment to bond with their babies and learn to be moms. If you are having any bonding problems, you really need to separate everyone so they can learn to be good moms.

Forgive me if I have misunderstood how you keep your brooding hens and new moms.

No, not new Moms have done great together before. They are blocked off from the rest of the flock.

4 days old... Kona! Color clues??

Kona is getting Grey wing feathers with yellow speckles. Any guesses?

Kona a is adorable!

Well I let Cricket back in and she's being good so far, I'll see how she does in the morning. Maybe she learned a lesson? I'll give her one more chance. Anybody have this happen and they got over it? She just looks at those strips like WTH that's not my kid.

I sold a splash Silkie rooster and ten unrelated coop ready chicks at a discount because the woman was buying so many and I wanted to help her keep her costs down to start her own flock. She wanted as many different colors as possible so I took the time to sort them for her. She was supposed to meet me at noon in Seattle since she lives in Lynnwood and I had to be in Seattle anyway. She did not show up until after 6 and I had to drive out of my way to meet her in a different location than originally planned. The Silkies had been in the crates since 10 that morning because I had to catch them and pack them up for her before I headed to Seattle (about a 50 minute drive). After I got home I texted her and asked how they were doing but she never answered. Four days later they were listed for sale on CraigsList for more than twice what she paid me. When I confronted her she asked how I recognized them and I told her because I hatched and raised all the chicks. I had spent more on the rooster than what I sold him for but because I am keeping his splash chicks I did not want to breed them back to him. I have already replaced him with two young roosters that are unrelated to all my Silkies. I also spent more on feed and care than what I sold the chicks for but I have so many chicks that I need to be selective about which ones I keep. I went through a lot of trouble to sell the Silkies to this woman at a discount and then she turns around and uses my kindness to make a profit! I am no longer offering discounts to people getting a larger number of chicks because I should be the one getting reimbursed for the time and money I put into raising them. I don't know if this woman will get her asking price for them but maybe it is better for the Silkies to have a home or homes where they will be valued and not sold by a flipper. I warned other breeders about this woman so hopefully she does not take advantage of anyone else the way she used me.
