Silkie thread!

So I just in to check on the silkies and Snow and her eggs. She must have shifted her weight because she knocked two eggs out from under her. I noticed her nest was pushed to a slant so they may have rolled out. I took her off and readjusted the nest, put her back on, and waited a bit since they were very cold to candle them and see if they made it or not. They were moving! I figured since they were cold, and they are in a cooler room so they were pretty chilly, that there was no way they were okay. Has anyone else experienced this? Every one freaks out with incubators about temp and humidity and it seems like they are tougher than we give them credit for.

Yes! I had a egg go totally cold stuck it back under the hen and it hatched the next morning. They are tougher then we think!

I keep reading about the silkies and its making me more and more anxious to get my chicks. how loud are the roosters? we have neighbors so we cant have overly loud roos.
also does anyone have experience showing silkies? either 4-H or something else? we are getting hatchery birds but would that mean they couldnt be shown?
The potentially CAN be shown (as longasthey dont have defects) but just not do well. Especially at a 4-h level, there may not be any competition to show against,, but the kids can still show them. Mine show plymouth rocks, but used an nondescript mutt color silkie for showmanship because she is smaller and not fussy. She is a joy! My daughter also enjoyed just carrying her around during the day. They eventually wanted to be able to show silkies more seriously instead ofthe rocks, so we have set up breeding pens and gotten stock from a breeder as well as hatching eggs. Like it was said bfeore, they can bea dditictive!

Other thing is there are no breeders near us. my dad wants a silkie as a pet but im hoping this hatchery will give is good birds. they do say they breed to apa/aba standards on spme breeds

Is there anyone around you that could hatch eggs fo you? I saw and add on CL someone looking to rent space in a bator for hatching eggs she wanted to buy. I called them but a friend of hers already lent her one from tsc.

If you dont know anyone you could do what she did and try craigslist. Just an idea.
