But it can give a blue so dark it is easily mistaken as black.

I noticed today my black hen that has the green sheen has a little light grey/blue coloring on her booty/vent feather area, so I'm assuming that she would not be considered a true black

Hey guys! this is my silkie Bemmie I hatched on new years! I am still trying to find what coloring she is....she has some buff and white! what color could she be?

So what do you call these cuties with blue legs and smooth feathers?? Do you have any pictures to share? I have a little guy here I am trying to figure out...both parents had silkie feathers. It looks to me like these are coming in normal?!? They sure do keep ya guessing!!

I read on here somewhere that sometimes a smooth silkie is hatched. It is still a silkie. I supposed it was like the reverse of my frizzle pekin. Anomally genes that make the feathers different? What says you guys?

All of my silkie cockerels are super sweet, love attention and think they should be lap chickens. They also don't bicker with each other. They are also super curious. As far as special grooming I am not an expert but I check the feathers around their eyes and remove them if needed.

Do you pluck them out with tweezers or something? Or cut them? I can see how you would want to make sure their eyes are clear. I have been just finger grooming mine.

Do you pluck them out with tweezers or something?  Or cut them?  I can see how you would want to make sure their eyes are clear.  I have been just finger grooming mine.

Funny you should mention this today. Yesterday, our little Bogger couldn't see the feed dish properly...really?! His little eyes seemed fine when we gave him the once over last week. We were told plucking out by hand looks better for judging and we started with that then decided to cut to the blunt scissors since he isn't being shown. I don't use tweezers because I worry about something sharp near their little eyes if they move quickly. Finger grooming works best for us also.
