Silkie thread!

I just hatched 6 Silkies that I got from a local person that has Silkies, he has a Black Rooster, 2 White Hens and a Buff/Red Hen. I was hoping to get a few Whites or Black Silkies, but I was shocked on this one. Is this chick going to be a paint or a splash? Sorry I really don't know Silkie Colors. I have a silver grey partridge and a porcelain right now, and just love them, that I wanted to try to get a white or black to go with them. But this one really through me for a loop.

This chick is 18 hours old, sorry about the photo's I will take him/her out tomorrow after they are fluffy to get some good photos, but I just can't get over the black on this chick.

I got a few pics today of the floofies. We need spring time badly. They are still in the house and bored, so while I cleaned the brooder box, and the big flocks area, I let the run around the kitchen. BIG cleanup after, but they enjoyed themselves. The 3 week olds With big bro Chance Chance and Booker. They look so much alike. Father and son. Daddy Booker Big bro Chance and sis Henley This was funny to me. They do what momma does. They look more like partridge markings. Could the buff red be a red partridge ? Very cute btw.

So one more round of pics. I went into the pitch black den and snapped some pics. It was pretty funny when I looked at the results.

The sleep habits of a momma and 5 chicks. At 3 weeks old they are getting a little big for sleeping under her.

And what I am calling The Croods.. If you have seen it, you know what a family sleep pile is.

Absolutely ADORE ur Henley. She looks so much like r Violet who is alpha of r flock of 4. I LUV Partridges - Smiles :) Ur boys make us miss r boy who we had to give back to the breeder because we were told he was a "pullet" til he crowed! The girls r adorable but the boys r just xtra special - just no other breed in the world like these gems. Guess u have too many birdies to put them ALL in diapers. We put chicken diapers on r girls if they r in the house but then we only have 2 Silkies!

To kabhyper1 - what do u do w/ so many Silkies? Do u show them? sell them? LOVE d pics & we just saw the Croods this last weekend LOL!

I sell the eggs for hatching right now. I plan on getting breeder pens set up in the spring. I would like to show eventually. They are supposed to be outside, but it's been too cold to put them back out. They live in the den most of the time in a 5 x 6 giant box/brooder. I let them stretch their legs occasionally, but there is a huge clean up after lol. I have 18 of them. We have a large fowl coop with 14 chickens too. I love the boys, they are my favorite. I like the girls too, but there is something so sweet about silkie boys. I like my large fowl boys too. My roos all get along just fine. we don't have fights so far.

My boys .... There aren't too many roos that will line up on the back of the couch for you lol.

My big boys, not silkies, but I love them just as much

Oh , give the girl some eggs.

LOL! Yeah it's what we say too!

I know it seems that would solve her problem but we go through this w/ her every few months. We aren't zoned in a small backyard & would have a terrible time finding homes for anything she hatched. She'll be ok in a couple weeks & back to bossing the flock as usual. We just have to make sure to take her off nesting 3-4x a day to eat, dust-bathe, etc & give her extra attention for toenail trims, Poultry Protector treatment, vitamins, and extra protein. We noticed that she tucks herself away in a nestbox when she's moulting too. She & her brother were the smallest chicks in the original breeder's flock of LF so hiding has always been her security blanket. The Black Silkie is not as determined to brood - 3 weeks is her normal time then she's back to normal.

To BuckNBark & MWAFORD - wish y'all weren't so far away. I've got one Partridge right now that is so broody a plastic egg stuck to her breast when we lifted her out for some exercise. I didn't know the faux egg was in the straw! She's 3 years old and never was broody her first year. Now all she wants to do is brood. Found her setting on a cucumber slice yesterday!

awwwwwwwwwwwww. That's so sweet!!!
