So everyone, I've got these two lil ones here and I thought they were silkies givin to me, but now I'm wonderin if they're mixed or just bad quality 6 week olds. What you think?

I've never even seen Privett Hatchery stock (my local feed store orders from them) look this bad quality. You got took - but they'll probably be your sweetest pets. This is one reason I don't get Silkies younger than 2 months. But LOVE them or give them to a good pet quality home because every chickie is special - Smiles :)

I think boys will have a couple hard feathers sticking out of their tail & crest poufs so this looks like a girl from her profile stance plus there's no huge walnut comb but don't know the age to ID for sure. There's a Partridge-only Silkie thread on BYC you might want to post this pic. I LUV Partridge!

Thank you. I have 18 silkies. 7, five month olds 5, five week olds, and 6 one year olds. The older ones have been outside all their lives until November when they came in due to weather. The 5 month olds were brooded inside and just stayed in due to weather. The five week olds also have never been outside. I plan on only using one 50 lb bag of the medicated show feed before they go outside. I don't like medicated feed and prefer to keep it organic and natural, but they are my babies, and I don't want them to get sick from coccid exposure because I never took precautionary measures. I want them to have a smooth transition outside with as much immunity as I can give them. Hopefully it will start warming up soon. It has been a really bad winter. We are due for single digit temps this week again. ugh.

The Midwest and East Coast is really getting throttled this winter. Keep those babies safe as long as you can because the temperature transition might be too much a shock right now. Even in So CA our weather is warm-hot days in the hi 80s but the nights still get VERY cool in the 30s. My chicken-garden plants don't know how to take the weather. My first batch of seedlings grew like gangbusters in hot January but in the hot-cool month of February they're confused and not growing as fast. Your youngsters may need to stay in a while longer just because of this nutty fluctuation!

Ive read that u cant get "show quality" birds from hatcheries but cackle hatchery says that they strive for show, meat, pet, etc poultry so should my silkies be showable? (At 4-H. Atleast)
