Silkie thread!

We ordered 25 from cackle and so far have lost 6, 3 dominique chicks and 3 black silkies. im worried the rest are gonna jist keep dropping one by one :(

I would make sure they were drinking with electrolytes/ vitamins for chicks in the water. Very sorry your losing them.

My Sizzle hen hatched out some chicks last night (I'm assuming), most are Silkies and I think a few are Sizzles. They're so adorable.

On a sadder note, one of my Silkie hens isn't doing so good today. When I opened the door this morning she acted like she couldn't get down the step to the ground. So, I picked her up and sat her there. When I checked a little while later, she was still in the same spot. Then I took scraps out just a little while later and she was laying on her chest with her feet stretched out behind her, panting. She had some clear fluid leaking from her vent, so I brought her inside and let her soak in a warm bath. Some scrambled yolk and a few bits of shell came out of her

Is there anything I can do? Right now shes in my laundry room wrapped in a towel getting dry. I just lost another of my hens to a hawk, and only had 5 chickens to start with since I had to downsize for our move

My Silkies came from Cackle last July, and I had some problems with pasted vents. I lost two chicks out of ten. The heat was horrible at that time, and I believe they were overly stressed from it. The chicks just hatched from my very first incubation seem much more robust, no sticky butts at all. Don't give up, Silkies WILL prevail! Yours

WOW, these guys are cute! I bought a few from Cackle last year - ended up with two white Roos, two white hens, one black roo, and one Blue hen. They just started laying a couple of months ago, an egg a day, actually, and I was pleasantly surprised. So during a brief warm spell, I decided to collect the eggs and try my hand at incubation. Well, I have 14 chicks in the brooder in the house now. So not one of them is white; they are all black, black and grey, black and grey with white markings, pure grey, and maybe a splash or two. And then there are four that are grizzly brown colored, with black or gray markings. So what is going on with all these dark colors? Why no white, when I have two white males? Does anyone know about the genetics of these colors. My pretty blue hen heard the peeps and has gone broody for the first time. She keeps swiping the eggs from the other two hens and I think she might be hatching for a very long time. And y'all think YOU have a hatching addiction. :/

hatched this silkie out of some random silkie eggs I bought from breeder any clue what color to call this chick

rayray, the top photo of your hatched chick looks a LOT like mine; my friend looked up some interesting videos on YouTube, and there are Silkie colors termed just brown. It will be interesting to see what they mature into. My little brown ones are the fuzziest dynamos of the group: little bruisers:D. I am brand new to Silkies, planned on using them as brooders. And as expensive entertainment for young visitors. But I am curious about the colors. Will be looking to see what answers your question brings. Coop
