Silkie thread!

I'm thinking a white and a splash? I had my white hen sitting on hers, a splash's and lavenders (self blue). 4 lavenders hatch so far, and this one is a lot lighter. BUT- the splashes were with a black roo, so splash chicks shouldn't

have hatched from that breeding. I think my whites are gold based instead of silver based (they have partridge siblings), so I don't think the darker one will be white.

Your chicks are adorable! Are the white Silkies extremely white right after they're born?

that's the cutest chicken butt I've ever seen ^

They are usually yellow. But, then, someone said that the whites that are silver based look whiter when they are born. Mine aren't silver based, so I dunno. Time will tell- but the anticipation is gonna kill me. Not really, but I'd like to know

Wow - a Leghorn bantam? I tried to find them in the US about 6 months ago but couldn't find a bantam Leg breeder so went with a LF Buff Leghorn to add to the flock.

Did you purposely breed the bantam Leg to a bantam Silkie or was it a chance mating? Very interesting result.

So excited! DH gave me the go-ahead to buy a brinsea mini advanced (I have read about lots and lots of incubators and watched you tube vids on making my own.. I think this gives the most bang for my buck) this weekend - $163.99 includes shipping and online coupon.
Good choice?
All because he thinks silkies are adorable too - and agreed on a 2nd coop just for them! Awh, he loves me! I am going to need 7 silkie hatching eggs in a couple weeks!! Suggestions where I can get a colorful quality assortment?! I am so excited! :D

Anybody from Idaho that are selling there silkie chicks? Or anybody that's close to idaho.

If you aren't showing them maybe you have a feed store that carries chicks? We're in the city in Calif and there's two feed stores near us that order heritage hatchery chicks. The only bummer with Silkies is that you can't know the sex until they're juveniles. One of our feed stores orders most of his hatchery chicks from Privett in New Mexico. The Silkie chicks I saw weren't bad for hatchery stock but then you need to know what to look for when choosing one. Hope you find some Silkies !
