Silkie thread!

Wow he's a big boy! Is he a LF or bantam? I think we mostly have the bearded bantams in the USA. I love the proud stance of the Silkie boys - so alert!

He is a leghorn bantam cross silkie bantam

I'm thinking a white and a splash? I had my white hen sitting on hers, a splash's and lavenders (self blue). 4 lavenders hatch so far, and this one is a lot lighter. BUT- the splashes were with a black roo, so splash chicks shouldn't

have hatched from that breeding. I think my whites are gold based instead of silver based (they have partridge siblings), so I don't think the darker one will be white.

Oh. Then they are not ready to meet her. They need to be at least a couple weeks old. When I put mine together I introduced them in the yard they saw each other and just kept doing what they where doing. I did this many times and eventually I put them in with each other. Is the older silkie in with any other birds? Is it a hen or rooster? Has he or she been aggressive to other birds

She hasn't seen them yet. We just got them today and they're 2 days old.

It's usually best to have a petition between them for a week or so . That way they can get to know each other without any casualties . Your chicks will need heat until they are 6 weeks old, but when they are 2 weeks old it doesn't hurt to let them scratch in the soil , supervised of course. That will give your hen an opportunity to get a good look at her new ' roomies '.

Pam they are adorable .

Do you have any suggestions about introducing a Americana x jap bantam and a jap x silkie. At the end of this week it will have been 1 week with them side by side with my silkies with a barrier in the middle. I have only introduced a silkie with younger silkies. But these crosses can actually see lol. Both crosses seem very excited to go in with them but they are acting very weird they are pacing back and forth and it looks like they would attack them if I let them out. :(
