Silkie thread!

Three of my babies do seem to be having the pastey butt problem including this one, but none of them besides this one is acting this wat. Ive been trimming the fluff and hard poo pieces away, and then wiping it the best I can but theres always a hard crust all around it even when it seems clear enough. Am I suppose to wipe away every single hard spots even if its not blocking the exit? Will just having it around the area be making her sick?

I run warm water and as gorse as it sounds gently rub the the poop away. Towel dry and keep warm. I started adding apple cider vinegar to the water, as soon as I see pasty butt. Just a half a teaspoon will do it. Scramble some eggs and add a dollop of plain Greek yoghurt to it. The chick saver has will help also.

I dont think so. I have a 250 watt bulb at the top rim of the big bucket they are in. All the other 5 are very spirited and healthy. They dont sleep right under it but they always sleep right on the side of the light next to their feeders. And theres still plently of room beyond that to move away from the heat if needed. Its just this chick that is acting so lethargic and not eating/drinking unless forced. Just wants to sleep. Its also the smallest one. I dont know if that makes a difference. It seemed fine the first day but its just noticeably not acting right. Its not spunky like the others, and its not even caring to eat or drink :(

Thanks fancy, do you wipe their butts every day even if their vent part is clear but its still hard all around it? If thats the case it would be like this everytime they pooped lol. Can they spread it around to the chicks who dont have it? So adding apple cider vinegar to very young chicks is perfectly safe? I think their waterer is a quart. Its just the small basic red chick feeders you get anywhere. Would I just put a half teaspoon in there? And whats the benefit of doing this, how does it help? And what causes pastey butt to even happen? Is it a bacteria?

Try the scrambled egg.
