Silkie thread!

I dry hatch every time but just like any incubation method anything can go wrong I've had 6 great hatches 80 to 90% then my last hatch I experimented and tilted incubator and not turn each egg individually ended up with 10% hatch rate so I'm going back to what works for me and that's more hands on
I am trying to incubate for my first time without an autoturner. I feel like opening the incubator that frequently probably makes them develop a bit slower, which is probably good. I have the whole incubator setting at an angle, the eggs are in cartons and I spin each egg on the y axis a quarter turn every 1-3 hours. We'll see how it goes!

I just picked up Vi-tal from the Ifa store and Poly vi sol at walmart. Wasent sure which to try. How exactely should I mix the poly vi sol? Do I give it to her straight from the dropper and not mix it with water? Just dip my finger in it and put it on the beak? And how many drops, and how often? Can I also give it to my other lethargic chick who is laying down alot and doesent want to walk? Infact can I put it in the water for the rest of the chicks to everyday to keep them healthy or will it give them the runs?

There are a lot of vitamin products for chicks but I chose to go the Poly-Vi-Sol no iron children's vitamins for my chicks, juveniles and adults. Just one drop on the side of the beak away from nostril and make sure the chick licks it off with it's tongue. I like to know my chickens are getting a decent dose as vitamin water is not monitored well - some chicks drink more, some less, and some none at all. I had a juvie like that so made sure to use droppers for water and a drop of vitamin for perking up. I usually give 1 drop of vitamin 2-3x weekly to each chicken - that way I don't have to wonder how much vitamin water they drank during the day. Besides, vitamin water is expensive to toss out for fresh every day. Just me and what I do.

In all honesty I was pretty happy that any eggs hatched, considering they were shipped eggs and my post office failed to call me and put them on the truck LOL.
Hopefully better luck this time. I really did like the dry hatching because I felt like I was disturbing them way less before lockdown.
I chuckle though because I've watched and dealt with broody hens... eggs can be some resilient little things LOL.

I got a few more ingredients tonight to try along with the vitamins I got for the little wry neck chick and when I got home to give it to her, she had already passed away :( I'm glad she's at least not suffering anymore. I pray I dont loose anymore :(

I prefer opening the incubator to turn I can check every egg and they have a certain feel yo themlike if they feel to warm iI check with different thermometer etc makes me more comfortable knowing I've opened the incubator and am checking my eggs 3 times a day

I got a recipe online for wry neck but im wondering if it'll work for any lethargic chick to that is eating/drinking but doesent want to walk around at all. It was 2TBS of pedia lite, 2 drops of poly vi sol, 100units vitamin E, and 50mcg selenium all mixed in together and then a few drops to the chicks beak several times a day. I got all this to try on my wry neck chick but she died when I got back :( So I mixed it up anyway and gave a couple drops to my grey chick who has not been wanting to walk at all. It can walk, it just chooses not to and seems lethargic. I also gave some to my other chick who is limping just to see if it does anything for her. I dont know how often is ok to give to them though, or if I might give them too much too often or not. I really dont want to loose anymore babies :(

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thanks, it was just hard because she only had wry neck for a day and I really wanted to try to help her. At least she's not hurting anymore.
