Silkie thread!

The first is a splash, the 3rd is a partridge, and I'm guessing the 4th is a blue partridge. But the second has me stumped! Out of my first hatch, I got 2 splash and the rest a very light blueish partridge (I think!) Below are chicks from the first hatch. They are all so different!

I'm so proud that my guesses were actually right, haha!

Wow it's crazy how different they are. I love reading about this stuff and look forward to breeding Slkies sometime in the near future.

Are all of the pics show quality? I'm afraid my hatchery chicks won't have the beautiful crest

Not necessarily the flu, but they probably have some sort of respiratory illness. If you search, you will find lots of information! How do you know it has a chest infection?

I went to pick up three Silkie chicks from a lady I go to church with. A brood hid a nest and she didn't know she was sitting until she heard peeping from the chicks. I got there and there was six chicks. The broody was black. The chicks look like they will be blue, but some of them have yellow bellies. They will be a mystery to watch grow. They came from a pen with black, white, splash and dark buff. They are so tiny compared to the 6 week olds I have growing. I will get pictures later. There is nothing cuter than those fluffy faces peaking out from the brooder.

Definitely do a search of the forum and/or post on the disease thread. There are many respiratory illnesses chickens are susceptible to. Make sure the sick chick(ens) are quarantined away from others or you risk spreading the illness.

It really depends bird to bird... I couldn't tell you if a chick was going to be show quality, although you can look and see if it has correct feet (5 toes well separated). I tend to find hatchery Silkies are not as fluffy as breeder's birds and they often do not have beards.
