Silkie thread!

Nooo no more babies right now. lol I have to build more coops before I get more. Plus DH barely lets me go into tsc anymore. I had to go today and saw them. I only add breeder quality to my flock, so it was fairly easy to pass up, but I would like to see someone give them a good home.

I dont really have any right now. :( My pullets all started laying, and they are all mixed into one coop for now, so I dont have any idea which hen or pullet is laying what. Some of the pullets are in with their brothers right now, so not hatching eggs until I get it sorted out. You got the last shipment before the chaos started HAHA! Soon I will have more though if anyone wants to keep me in mind. I have pics of my flock on my profile.

I'm not sure if anyone else has done this, but we raised our chicks with 24-7 access to music.
There is a stereo in the room the brooder is in and they got accustomed to classical mostly, but always something relaxing and soothing.
The first time I played guitar for them was fun and I serenaded them with "Blackbird"
Since they've moved outside it seemed something was missing until I dragged a small radio out this evening and it immediately got an audience.
The radio is the black object up near the handle of the rake.
I let them listen for a couple hours until the sun went down and one by one I collected up a pile of Silkies and deposited them in their new home where they once again became a pile. lol

Anyone else expose their chickens to music???

I haven't exposed mine to music, will have to try it out and let you know what they think. :)

maggie and lucy love music.

but on a sad note, we've come to the conclusion that lucy may die. her leg is either infected, or a band is around it. either way, we may have to amputate and she may not survive without the leg.

Well, the Spring hatching was a little less than I planned, but I did get 15 chicks. Only 3 from the incubator. Those were taken from the hens late term, when they started rejecting the newer babies (only two hens did that). At one point, I thought that the only chick that was going to hatch from the 'bator, It was doing a stressed chirp for a day and a half, so I got another chick from my friend He was 2 weeks older. About 40 minutes after I got him, another chick hatched! Then another hatched this weekend.I have staggered ages in the one brooder. The 3 week old is a great older brother/sister. Still have eggs of all stages of development in the 'bator. I have 3 lavenders (self blue), 6 porcelains (blue cream), 1 black split lavender, 1 blue, and 4 whites Here is a pic of the awesome foster brother/sister. He/she even spread his wings to cover a newborn.
