Silkie thread!

I have one silkie (I'm new to chickens) that is about 2 week'ish. I got her/him and others from Del's (local feed store). I need to take recent pictures of him/her

Just me but I always get bantams in two's so as not to get picked on by the LF when they are full grown. Silkies really should be in pairs at the very least. I have 2 Silkie hens and they squabble occasionally with each other but because there are two they rule the roost and don't get picked on by the other LF. The LF submit to them because the Silkies can get cantankerous from being hormonally broody so much of the time. If it was just one Silkie in the flock she would be outweighed literally by the heavier LF. Again just me and what I did with my 4-hen flock.

Awww - what is Dolly's handicap?
Her left foot is curled under. It's from birth so I was told when we adopted her. I'm sure it probably could have been fixed had they tried , maybe they didnt know how, who knows. She gets around fine, and makes gorgeous babies that don't have the defect. I think it must have been an incubation issue and not genetic. She is almost 3 years old. The only issue she has, is she wont use the ramp, so she either gets treats in the coop or I take her out with the others when they free range. She doesnt go far though. :)

Lucky she found a 'carer' in you.

im kinda dissappointed that my 2 adult hens arent laying yet was looking forward to getting some eggs. I know silkies arent the best layers but i was hoping to get some eggs had them for over 3 weeks so they should be settled down from the move

My Partridge pullet started laying around 6-1/2 months old ay 5-6 eggs/week for a year without stopping or going broody. It took her 8 months to start laying again but then would go broody for several weeks. In her 3rd year she took 6 months off laying but kept going broody on other hen eggs that we had to collect immediately. Now she finally started laying from her 7-month rest at about 4 eggs/week but who knows how quickly she'll brood again. I am maxed out for room as far as chicks so we won't give her eggs to set. She's our alpha in the flock but each time she goes broody she has to come back into the flock to re-establish her matriarchy. While she's broody the 2nd oldest Silkie takes over alpha leadership til the Partridge rejoins the flock and then there's a contest of pecking order between the two to settle the dispute. Hormones.
