Her left foot is curled under. It's from birth so I was told when we adopted her. I'm sure it probably could have been fixed had they tried , maybe they didnt know how, who knows. She gets around fine, and makes gorgeous babies that don't have the defect. I think it must have been an incubation issue and not genetic. She is almost 3 years old. The only issue she has, is she wont use the ramp, so she either gets treats in the coop or I take her out with the others when they free range. She doesnt go far though.

I keep thinking with foot issues that if only the breeder had known and could've-would've-should've so easily helped to fix the foot when she was a chick. I understand there are a lot of foot problems created from incubation problems. My incubator friends have these problems all the time and a whole lot less problems with broody hens. So glad I don't breed - no room - not zoned - etc. So glad you have the patience to care for her.

What do you all think about me letting Suki hatch her eggs in the coop with the flock? I have 4 roos, 9 hens and 5 juvies (4 months unsexed still grrr lol) in the coop. They all get along. I have always brought my girls inside to hatch, but the weather is getting nice so I would rather let her do it in her comfort zone. She isnt a very assertive hen, so I don't know how she would do protecting her chicks. My cochin was awful about running off and leaving the kids just standing there like "where'd mom go??" when the flock got pushy. I didnt put her and her babies with the flock until the chicks were about a month old. I have Suki in a nesting area by herself with food and water but it isnt closed off. She is a spaz I really hope she stays put. She hasnt ever been broody before. I didn't even realize she was until I candled the 9 eggs I found under her and saw development. So I have to let her sit. LOL she hears me call chick chick and she is out of the box, but if I put her back in she is right back on them. She is teeny too, so she gets frustrated trying to make them all stay under her. She is always tucking. Oh and FYI she is bearded, but the flock caught neard lice last fall and some of them, including her are currently having silkie pattern baldness in the face area.

Could anyone explain this silkie without feathered feet from TSC? I got it because it was a red one and thought I'd be cool to have one with out feathered legs! Does anyone have pictures of one like this grown up?

does it have five toes and black skin? It's probably not a silkie. Do you have a picture?

I would suggest blocking off the opening with chicken wire so the babies and her will be safe from the rest of the flock. Can you access the box from the outdoors if so this idea will work. You will just have to give her water and food through the nesting box door. Or you could put hinges on the inside screen covering the nesting box and then when the other birds are outside you could open the screen and they could walk in the rest of the coop for some space:/

i have that same issue from my TSC chicks! 5 toes, black skin, but bare legs!
