Silkie thread!

Sorry, I completely misinterpreted what you meant. Your birds are lovely.
This little one of mine is yellow beaked as well. I have been breeding this line for several years and this is the first yellow beak I've seen.
What color is it? If a paint, I hear those sometimeshave 'spots ie holes' in their skin coloring - usually on the feet like a toe or something. I wonder if it is the same kind of color hole just on the face?

When I say ' hard ' I mean smooth like normal feathers. If you are seeing hard spikes looking things in the crest they will be ' pin feathers ' which means the bird is in a molt.

Oh Thanks...no...her primaries on her wings are hard. Other than that her feathers are the "hair like" silkie feathers...again, I don't know enough to know the terminology. She doesn't have pin feathers sticking through her crest...she just has a dinky one.

I so appreciate you answering my questions. Have you seen small crests like these in pure silkies?

Thanks for the pics. They help so much. The blue was and I don't know about the black but neither has laid since I picked them up 2 weeks ago. I didn't expect them to though. The Blue was broody when I picked her up but left the nest after the move and so I went back and got the black as a friend for her 3 days later.

I feel more comfortable in assuming that they are pure bred pet quality now. Thanks.

I got my broody Carmela a non bearded Silkie moved tonight. I picked up her nesting box (covered cat litter box) and moved it into the garage in a XL dog kennel. I had marked the original eggs she was sitting on she had a extra 8 under her for a total of 16. I gave her 8 out of my splash, frizzle, sizzle coop. I need to get my frizzle broody out of that coop. She is also on 8 eggs. The broodies were raised together but have been separated for about 6 weeks. Do you think I could move their nest into the same kennel?
