Silkie thread!

Thank you chick rookie... They were what I wanted when I started this adventure last spring but unfortunately I dealt with a not so good breedere with a few of my flock ..however these girls**(the smaller was sexed by a breeder at hatch and Im just guessing with the larger--wishful thinking and all) but these girls are my best and I fell in love before we got home .. I bought 18 Silkies last spring, and unfortunately ended up with 16 roos and 2 hens. My 2 hens are stunning--one red and one splash-- and cant wait til these 2 are older to add to the big girl flock!!

I had to share this. My husband always says I'm crazy because I love my silkies. Well the other day he saw them sunbathing for the first time. Naturally if you never seen it before it looks like they are almost dead/dying lol. Well he ran out so fast he scared the hell out of them. He says "what" when he caught me watching him I just said mmhmm. Plus now I know which one his favorite is because he ran to my blue girl first.

your very wecome, I had that same thing happen to me a couple of years ago, ( not with Silkies though ) it really upset me, but I traded most of them with a friend of mine for hens so it turned out ok.
Now the 2 Silkies I got last winter turned out to be boys so I'm trying to find them some girls. here are my baby boys:

the same hen is acting like she wants to lay another today but didnt when i put them up for the night she has been scratching inside the coop like she is building a nest but wont go in the boxes i have for them is she about to go broody

My Silkies won't use nest boxes either. Mine prefer a cozy corner with shavings. Good luck!

Haha I love when I witness this kinda stuff with my hubby lol. He to doesent like to admit he likes any of my animals but I catch him spending time with them lol. My chickies are still young but I hope once ive had them a while and he gets to know them that he'll start to like one of them to. I even named one butters just for him since he likes south park hoping that'll earn him points and make him like it more lol.

Does anyone just let their Silkies hatch in the flock and join the others right away or do you keep Moma hen and chicks separate for awhile?
