Silkie thread!

This is exactly what I've been telling my DH! Silkies are hard to sex...you can't really know until they tell you themselves. :) So I need at least 2 of each color...or 3...or 4 lol! This chicken math is going to get me into trouble! :).
I keep reading that silkies tend to hatch early. Does that mean that they go into lock down early?
Good luck with your hatch Cynthia! I hope you get exactly what you're hoping for!

Mine tend to hatch a bit late.

My chickies are at the age of brooding and my roo isn't "getting it on" with any of the hens. I adopting 5 babies and also took in a brooding hen who pecks at all my chicks now grrr. I know she is establishing that she is the ruler on the coop. We named her Queen Madea. Lol
Anyway I have a few questions that need answers to.. Why won't my only semi adult roo mate? Also Madea was very broody when we first got her. We gave her some eggs to sit on and she wouldn't stay with them. Mind you she was sitting on eggs she stole from other hens the day we got her.
Now I found 3 eggs that she hasn't been sitting on at all!

And the other hens.... Well they haven't laid their first egg yet so I don't think they would know what to do with them. Frustrated here. Hate to see these eggs go to waste.

Perhaps your semi-adult male is more semi than adult? And hens brood on their schedule, not yours. The stress of moving a hen can stop her inclination to brood for the time being. Give it some time.

Yes, mine have always started hatching early. In fact, I have two working on it very hard right now..and a lot of pips!! Day 20.

Woah! That's amazing. I have no idea about your question. But how did you get the coloring? My mind is blown.

I honestly have no idea!! the father is a black silkie, and the mom is a black smooth that has red leakage.
this is the mom

dad

this is another crazy color I have gotten from this pairing. for some odd reason all offspring have had white beards.
