Suki got butt powdered so I hope that helps with lice. She is inside the house in fresh bedding, so I really hope the bugs will be minimal.
LOL yeah you would think. She snubbed scrambled egg like I had just cooked her children. She really didn't like it. She's a turd. At what point with her weight loss, would I need to make the decision to put the eggs in an incubator and make her stop brooding? That is last resort for sure. She wants to be a momma so badly. Would you say as long as she is pooping she is eating?

The green poop is a sure sign of her ' self imposed ' starvation, but so long as she is eating something I would leave her to it. Pop a little tuna or cat food under her nose. Mine like cooked rice with raw egg mixed through and sardines in oil. They seem to like the rice but on its own it's not very nutritional, so even adding an egg to it will raise the protein level.

This is all normal behaviour for a broody, the hormones take over. Even if you were to take eggs away she would still brood. I have one sitting on a pallet with 6 inches between her and her eggs.
She will eventually give up and return to the flock , a little slimmer and none the wiser .Just keep tempting your hen with food. Grit is not necessary with soft food.

Well I gave her about 2 tablespoons of tuna with a little feed sprinkled on it. OMG she is inhaling it. That reassures me. I just have to spoil her rotten to let her brood in a healthy way. LOL. She's a stinker. Thanks for all your help. She is my 5th broody hatch, but they all do it differently. Her food is closer to her now than it was in the picture. My broodies normally get up once a day to eat. Not Suki though.

Ha, no pic..that was meant for the paint looking mama.

And now, also for that white..and Tuna? Really...will have to try that. I do give them egg once in a while..but make sure they have food right there, and of course water.
And, I love the pine shavings. I use it every where..in the brooder, the nest boxes, for the broody hen.

Hi I'm very new to having chickens. I have five Silkkies that are around 7 weeks old. They are growing fast and are very sweet. I'm having a hard time figuring out the sex of the chick's. Maybe you could help me with that.

21 days is just a base line it can take up to 26 days . Nice chicks.

The last pic that you posted (the white that is being held) looks like a roo to me..in the original pic the white also looks roo'ishand the grey(or blue--I cant tell from the pic) but it looks like a hen to me..But it also looks like a showgirl(??I think that is what they are called) and I am not sure if they have the same characteristics as a regular Silkie or not..This is all my opinion..which may not mean much..I bought 18 Silkie chicks at once last spring and originally thought I had about 50/50 hens and roos and ended up with 2 hens and the rest roos...So I am far form an ecpert..lol..either way they are all very pretty!!
