Silkie thread!

Thank you so much! This may be old but the birds that I'm putting in with my silkies are japenese bantam crosses and they weigh and are smaller than my silkies but they are real agree sieve to them. I could never give them away they have already become my pets and I would miss them around. :( Thank you so much I am going to try putting duccle bantams in with my silkies next.

I have a cute story to tell. I really wanted a splash silkie & was unable to find an adult so decided to purchase a splash 2 day old baby from the breeder I purchase all my silkies from. I have 3 silkie hens sitting on eggs so decided to try to put the baby under the most docile of the three. It was so cute when I went to tuck it under the hen it was peeping & my little hen brought her little beek around & nudged my hand gently as if to help get the baby tucked securely under her. It is now three days later & the baby is thriving ! Mommy silkie is teaching her to eat & drink. So cute & much better for me than raising her inside! Mom is still sitting on her eggs. She is busy! She has two active eggs under her today. They are peeping & pipping!

Sweetie with her adopted baby!

Love seeing a broody momma silkie so adorable!!

Newby question here one of my silkie chicks keeps getting pasty but. I clean her daily. How can I keep it from happening. She will be a wk old tomorrow.
I had the same issue last spring when I had several Silkie babies..no matter how clean I kept the water, they would get it.. I tried adding ACV but it seemed to only work on about 50% of the chicks..I went to the little creek that runs through my farm and got a bucket of sand from the side and started throwing a pile in their brooder and never had an issue after that... I know that you can not use play sand or anything..if you dont have access to a creek you can buy grit for them..I have also started adding a large piece of sod in the brooders this year.. I just make a circle in the grass with the shovel , and put the entire piece- dirt and all in their brooder-- they pick at the small rocks and dirt in the sod and it works just like grit.
You can also trim their rears ( I call it a Silkie butt buzz cut) or add baby oil?? I am not sure one what type of oil was recommended to mebut I never did it for fear of dirt and bedding sticking to it..

I've got fertile silkie eggs coming out the ears. I ship if anyone wants some. Shipping can be kinda steep shipping too far out from the midwest, Im in indiana, but I am discounting eggs right now due to new layers, and unsure of colors. They are very fluffy though! Pm me if anyone is interested.
Can you PM me with an estimate on shipping to WV? I dont care about colors, I just had a horrible rate of roo:hen last year (16 roo:2 hens) and recently rehomed all but 2 roos and now trying for more girls..lol.. I have 2 greys that are still in the brooder, a year old red hen and a year old buff hen..I have a black roo and a blue partridge roo..so basically any color would fit right in..Here is a pic of my 2 greys on their first day in the yard..
