I don't know what large brown hens you mean, but I have a couple of Silkie x Wyandotte (LF ) I call them wylkies. My silkies have hatched and reared Sussex, barnevelder and Wyandotte , all large fowl.

do you have any pictures of your wylkies??

@Fancychooklady They are adorable! I love the first one!
@John Simpson What a wonderful coop. If only the landscaping around my human house was so nice. As for how many, what are the dimensions of coop and run area?

silkie experts! I'm a new chicken mama, and this silkie here is almost 10 weeks. Any guess on the gender?

My guess is Roo..Ive only had them for about a year but had 16:2 roos to hens last year so got to stare at a lot of roos growing up..Roos have these tiny hard feathers that will show up on their heads. and their head feathers tend to point towards their rears while hens stick straight up.. I am sure that there will be more experienced people weigh in though, thats just my opinion--(of course for the first few months with my guys I was convinced I had about 50/50..lol..

i want to get those brown large chickens. I dont know hat they are called. Would a silkie be able to mate with one of those brown hgens.would a silkie sit on the eggs for the hen if she doesnt go broody?

We're brooding 4 buff orpingtons to put in with our silkies and I chose the breed because they're supposed to be docile and friendly. So far in the brooder that rep seems to be holding up.
