Silkie thread!

Thank you:) lol he just came out of his tiny egg and I said aww it's a little Smidge and it just stuck:) love the name Smudge too:) I received my showgirl egg from a breeder in Santa Clarita Ca and Smidge the grey one is from my chickens, I usually hatch out chicks that turn into Blue grey chickens but he has a lighter creamier tone to him so who knows what he may actually turn out to be:)
They are gorgeous!! here is one of my girls that hatched yesterday..
I did good for my first hatch I think--setting more in the next couple days--waiting on some eggs to arrive..

Here is a comparison pic of my Americauna crosses and a Silkie/black banty cross..(my pure Silkies are even smaller)

These guys hatched at the same time..its crazy how different they can be-- I started them all out in the same brooder but mom nerves go the best of me and now the banties are in their own brooder..

Congrats on your first hatch:)! Your babies are so cute:) The chicks I have are 3 pure silks 1 tiny naked neck, 2 barred rock americauna mixes and 3 americauna Silkie mixes. They all are completely different sizes and all hatched a day apart from each other:) they all live together in an outside coop and were walking up and down the little ramp at 4 days old:) I have a total of 3 hens and a rooster that all help raise the 9 chickies and I just recently added 2 new barred rock chicks to the mix and they were welcomed very lovingly:) my flock raises the babies:) they are about 2 and a half weeks old now and are free ranging pros. I really did get lucky with how sweet and friendly my flock is:) they are So much fun to watch:) here's my boy Smidge on his photoshoot today:) lol

Its crazy how much slower the Silkies grow isnt it? I have 2 older Silkies that are still inside ( I am a bit over protective..lol) but all of the babies over a week old get to go ut to the 'playpen' during the day(if its nice) --the pen is about 20x 40 so they are free ranging in their mind-- I also have 2 adult Silkie hens and 2 roos, 8 RIR pullets, a lil black banty, 2 lil black banty roos, a red game banty roo and just got an Americauna cross roo for the RIR girls..

You babies are cuties-- I love the name btw!! I have about 5 more Silkie eggs out of my girls (a red and a buff) and then about 18 from a local breeders 'rare' mixed pen, and then I have 18 more Silkie eggs coming from a member on here and she has AMAZING birds so I cant wait for that hatch..lol..already an addict!!

Here are my 2 older girls( I have probably posted them before--I love to share them..lol)

I also have a pair of Norwegian Jaerhon babies, 5 Gold Laced polish babies and 5 guinea keets that I am growing out for my neighbors lonely guinea...lol..( I may regret that later--hehe)

Here are my NJs

Here are my big gals

I dont have any pics of the Polish on here--gonna have to get around to that soon..lol

I have a bantam cochin that just goes and lays, no announcing. But, when she is outside the coop, and you are out there, she talks to you the whole time. I have a white silkie that is looking boyish. He has started talking to me too. They make the cutest little noises when they talk.

And every chicken has a different sounding voice. We don't have to look at the flock to know who is talking!

We've had a lot of pets in our lives but there isn't anything like chickens! We are so in love we are going to a Chicken Meet-Up with other chicken lovers this month! Never did that with any other pets we've had.

Lol, I have a coronation Sussex he's about 8 weeks old . We call him LG, ( little George ), he chatters constantly. Today one of the kids left the door open and LG invited himself into the kitchen, helped himself to the cat food then let himself out. I am always meeting chicken people , it's funny how once the conversation turns to chickens more people join in.
You've probably already seen this, but I thought you'd get a kick out of this.

my first silkie! is she blue?

YES! And I'm jealous. Thing is, right now she is blue..does she have any yellow tint on her any where? If so..she could be a splash. Another color I am wanting in an EE! Luck...hope it's a girl if that's what you are wanting. Is this a silkie? I am also wanting a splash silkie. I have a really light one out in the nursery that is just now showing splash! Yay..now for a splash EE, or blue. Either would be great.
