LOL_ "Death by stupid". We have dog houses and tarps everywhere in case a sudden storm hits before I can get everyone out of it. They just stand there like sad, wet paper towels.![]()
We got lucky a couple weeks ago with our Silkies.
There was a weather alert for a pop-up thunderstorm with potential hail and we put the birds up thinking we were going to get it.
About 30 minutes later I thought it had passed to the north, or it looked like it did on the map, so like a goober I let them out.
Fortunately our run is covered with two different kinds of banner material, but the sides aren't protected.
Well, when the hail started those little heads popped up, having never seen anything like that and apparently some of the hail that was bouncing off the ground, made it into the run and one of the kids got hit, but fortunately not hard enough to injure him.
I've never seen chickens move so fast as they did hauling tail under the coop where they stayed until it was over.
I'm afraid they were smarter than I was this time around.
