Silkie thread!

TOOCLOSE. What do you think of my Silkie?
Oh if only we all had a magic ball so we could see into the future! LOL

Sorry Fancy!

I think it's a hen! No waddles, no cone, no long ankle feathers! But as Fancy says! Only time will tell! Unless you take H/H to the Vet and get a test done.

I started trying to put Buddha in her diaper. She is still a little too small. She was very sweet and patient while I was putting it on her. When I was done she promptly stood up, shook it off, looked me in the eye....and pooped a MOUNTAIN right next to it as a sign of victory! Lol! Oh well, we will try again tomorrow!

Ha! She's a smarty! My silkie would never stand for that!

Every time I try to quote someone? I get nothing but goobly gop on the quote screen! Is anyone else having this problem? TC That is just too funny. I've never put diapers on my kids. I just keep painter blankets thrown down and wash them. The diaper doesn't allow for primping in that area or allows them to get to their oil sacs.

There's a show I watched, a long time ago, about the Murray McMurray Hatching place that did a show on how they sexed the chicks. I'm sure it's out there on the internet if anyone is interested in searching for it!

I'm not big on "old wives tales" Fancy! I've just watched, looked and learned along the way. I'm only sharing what *I* know to have been the facts of what *I've* seen and figured out from having chickens! You are way more into the facts and books of the chicken world than I am! And I do value what you tell us! :D  Thanks

I was cleaning my first original six silkies little poopy butts when I noticed the difference(s)! And then of course there was the difference in the ankle feathers I noticed too. This is why I always say the *I* statements for ppl to see it's what *I* have learned!

Living on a farm * I * see things everyday that you'd be hard pressed to find in a book. Over the last 10 years of breeding and selling silkies I've tried many ' sexing ' techniques only to find that none of them increase your 50/50 odds on a guess. The hatcheries have trained people , sexing thousands of birds at a time and with the numbers involved I guess they'd get pretty good at it. But they still get it wrong, you've only to read through the posts on this , and many other threads to see the many disgruntled customers. Vent sexing bantams is not to be recommended as it can be dangerous to the bird . That is my opinion and yes , you are entitled to yours but I think that for the sake of newcomers , that both sides of the argument should be heard. :)

I know very little about Silkies and their colors but i bought mixed silkie eggs one was marked partridgeHatched browns and silver As its grown now about 8-9 weeks old it has turned black with white on its face not partridge.I asked the breeder what it might end up looking like black or some other color later. She hasnt responded yet. Will it just xarry the partiridge gene then.?

White dilutes all other colours. When you mix white birds with partridge it makes the result unpredictable. You still get some nice colours , it just makes the next generation unpredictable. Yes your bird still carries the partridge gene.

Fancy: I've said it many times! I'm NO professional and I'm not always 100% correct on what I see in a chick! I've only stated what me, myself and I have learned out of the classroom, as well as growing up a Tomboy on the farm! We are all excited about our new babies and of course are curious to know what sex they are. I've only given my version of what I go by to TRY and sex them.

I've never vented their little butts either to look inside. I've heard too many horrible stories about how it can injure and kill the babies. So I highly agree with you on that and hope others take heed too!

I truly do enjoy your posts and have learned a lot from them.
