What to do?

My Lil silk8e hen has has curled feet and who had her before tried to tape them but nothing. She is sliding all over and if she 8 on slippery surface can't walk. She does ok in grass but can't move so fast.

I can't cull her. She won't be used for breeding. Just pet. Any suggestions?

I want to cry seeing those poor little feet. She isn't going to do well with that deformity. Eventually she will get picked on and not be able to defend herself or run from a predator or bully. It is so kind of you to take her in but honestly I can't imagine any quality of life with those feet. Chickens use their beaks and feet for everything - and how can we assess the pain she is hiding being accustomed to this state for so long? I would've had her in the vet's office the first day I saw her like that to get his evaluation.

She eats chick starter. Curled toes runs in the family. Apparently she had no 8 dea she was imbreeding. I felt bad for her and took her. She eats dumor chick starter. She eats fruits every now and then. Free ranges out during the day.

Only thing is all the vets around do t deal with livestock. I've called within miles radius.

I would be giving a poultry vitamin to the entire flock.

This kind of deformity starts way back in the gene pool sometimes and in other cases it is put down to insufficient turning of the eggs in the incubation process. Then there are the ' easy ' fix cases when it is a simple vitamin deficiency. I have a little Columbian Wyandotte roo with toes every bit as bad as the ones pictured. When I got him it was too late to try to manipulate them with booties. He is my special needs boy, but he manages his ' handicap ' quite well, even manages to mount the hens.
My advice would be to routinely add a vitamin boost the entire flocks water once a fortnight in the hope that you can prevent this from becoming an issue with any other members in your flock.
And be prepared to remove this little one from the coop if it the others start picking on him.

How many colors of Silkies does everyone have. Please state each color and how many birds you have of that color.

I'll start:
White - 4
Blue - 8, maybe a few blacks not sure
Black Split Lavender Eggs - 12 ordered on their way

I'm new to this tread, and to silkies. No one around here has them, unless you order. I got lucky enough to have a relative fine me 4. 1 partridge, 1 white, 1 blue and 1 splash. Unfortunately a mink got the splash early on.

But my partridge has hatched 3 times in a year all with 85% hatch rate. This spring the white and blue decided to go broody together, so they got some eggs and some space. Only hatched three eggs, and they were fighting over them, so I ran out to a local hatchery and got 6 more LF chicks. All was going so well, they were such great mammas. The white one took over the 6 new ones and the blue took the 3 originals. They had their own little run and were just amazing. Unfortunately the mink came back last week. Those silkie mammas died protecting their babies. We only lost two babies, but also lost both mammas.

I was sooooo upset. But my hubby let me order more. So I'm hopeful that all will go well. Our girls want to start a silkie business, since it's so hard to find them around here. We'll see. This could get me into trouble. I have too much love for chickens, and not enough space (or money).
