Silkie thread!

Ideal poultry.
Ive had two smallest died. Some of the others have feet deformities. Toes that curled under the feet and that are now causing problems. Ive have them on paper towels as recommended here changed daily. So I dont think its from that.
I was very disappointed in my silkies from ideal. They were puny and not attractive at all. I've always had good luck with other breeds from them. Anyone have any suggestions as to which hatchery has good silkies?

I am new to silkies and just picked up this lavender hen from a lady on Craigslist. I didn't realize lavenders were rare at all. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to have feathered feet. She's about 3 months old. The lady owned the mother and father both were also lavender she said.

One reason I don't order hatchery Silkies is that - even though my Partridge was hatched from an egg in a friend's brooder - is that hatchery Silkies can be anywhere from barely feathered feet or crests to really nice looking Silkies but since you can't choose what the hatchery sends you it can be any kind of quality and sometimes with the wrong number of toes that a private breeder would never reintrodiuce in a breeding program or sell to unwitting customers.

Cackle raises their own birds but again I never ordered from them but hear they have a good rep.

Do you have any private Silkie breeders in your own home state where you can contact them to see their parent stock before buying?

You know, if she is free-ranged you'll be kind of glad she doesn't have feathered feet - just don't use her for breeding. She is gorgeous!

Okay both sides and back of neck . She acts normal. No one else has it. My 3 year old hen is still dizzy. They are the only two with issues.
