Silkie thread!

When I had to separate one of my bantams recently she didn't want to eat because she was nervous in her new surroundings in the house. Took her a day to start eating. I would dip his beak in water several times a day to be sure he is getting enough water. Some chickens don't like the taste of the ACV, so I would leave it out and put vitamin/probiotic powder in his water with a little sugar. I like the Rooster Booster brand that I buy at Tractor Supply. My chickens prefer "scrambled" egg and LOVE Quaker Old Fashioned oats dry. I would try different foods to see what he likes best.
Good luck! He sounds SO sweet! I love my Silkie roosters best. They have loads of personality!

Well, he likes bananas. LOL He likes bread. He sure likes chicken! I still can't get him to drink much but I will try leaving out the acv but will have to wait until the 1st to get a vit/pro powder. I will look at my TSC.

I did not know you could give Quaker oats at all. Thanks, I will try that after I check to make sure they are not the quick kind.

He has decided to be a chicken and not a lap pet but if he wants to stay in the house, which he kind of has to for now, he will have to accept being a lap pet. LOL

She is blue. :)

I have a little one who is supposed to be blue or blue splash, it's color looks nothing like yours. It will be 25 days old tomorrow. How long did it take your baby to turn colors? I am wondering if this one is a Porcelain but it was sold to me as a blue or blue splash.

So looking at that calculator I realize I need to understand genetics a bit more..... Any one know of a good "chicken genetics for dummies book"?

I have no idea what all that means but I accidently clicked on it and it took me to a page for a calculator. How would you put in the colors you want to produce? Would it then tell you how to get to those colors?

Can you post a picture of your chick? Mine has been this color since birth. The peachy colored chick in my pics is porcelain, the littler lighter colored chick is splash.

That's the color name I was looking for but didn't know they had for Silkies. A peachy color with lighter colors. The last picture shows her colors more true. You can click on the picture to enlarge.

This one was black but he is kind of a soot grey now and still changing. The last picture is more his colors also.

Other than my white rooster, Sam, this is all the silkies I have right now.

So, he is, maybe normal? A regular Silkie?
I mean he is what one of the first Silkies looked like?
i have no clue if he looks like one of the original silkies but i do know he has better type than any of my four silkies (two hens two roosters) although he does share the red comb gene that one of my roosters has
