Silkie thread!

I just put a dozen silkie eggs in my incubator. I bought the fertile eggs on eBay, let them rest pointy side down for 24 hours and at noon yesterday placed them in the hova-bator. I will candle them in a few days. I'm so excited to see if and how they turn out, but I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch! Love the photo's of the silkies!

I feed mine a mix if game bird grower and 3 grain scratch. The vitamins are Polyvisol no iron. Since I believe this was caused from a peck I was thinking I needed to take her to the vet for prednisone. What do y'all think?

Love everyone's pictures! !! Crazy busy summer but have been keeping up with the threads. Mine are 18 weeks even though one hasn't crowed pretty sure I have one of each. They are just starting the o be less skittish and today followed DH around the yard. They also realized if they come to me I will give them snacks. Today they were loving strawberries ♡♡♡

HaHa! Ask me about vets and I say go for it! I just don't like self-diagnosing guesses on what's wrong with my Silkie since I'm not a medical professional where I can't pinpoint exactly what's wrong. Some huge flock owners have become quite good at diagnosing and medicating their flocks but I only have 3 birds and can't afford to lose one to a mis-diagnosis.

These are my two Silkies- a roo and a hen. I love the roo- he doesn't quite yet know how to mate and was trying to the other day. However he was standing backwards on his favorite bird's back! Since we don't yet have the ingredienta for a homemade incubator we are monitering the birds' mating. I am hoping to obtain more Silkies in the future!
Lol, mine has been doing that too! He's been trying his heart out, but no luck :)

Many people don't feed medicated starter at all. The theory is that if you get an out break of cocci you treat then rather than attempting to build immunity.
Amprolium is a thiamine blocker and the science is in, a thiamine deficiency is the main contributing cause of wry neck. Check the bag for ingredients .
I keep a tub of amprolium in my first aid box because even after they have had medicated feed for the first 6 weeks if you have a cocci outbreak chances are they will be just as susceptible to it as the older birds. It's important to remove the medicated feed as soon as you see symptoms.
Routine vits ( as you are already administering ) and additives high in thiamine and niacin will go a long way to preventing wry neck.
Brewers yeast, vegemite and marmite are also good sources, that most of us have on hand.

I got a bit confused! Lol It doesn't take much! But what's the best, or most important, ingredients I should look for in my feed? I've had a lot of trouble with my EE babies being extra small an not surviving. So, I'm guessing, my EE's need SOMETHING that they r not getting??

It is all very confusing. What is the protein level in your feed . Some chicks fail to thrive as a result of the parent stocks poor nutrition.
