Silkie thread!

Im confused with these two males here. Found this on Olx.com.pk and just want to be sure that are these two males pure silkies? Because the male on the right have no crest, but silkies have crest. Right? and the one on the left have reddish comb and wattles while Silkie have dark purplish colored comb and wattles. :\

Silkies come in many shapes and forms, as with all breeds there are SOP ( standards of perfection) If you want to breed silkies it is best to start with parent birds as close to SOP as you can find in your location . http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Standard.html

One of my little Silkie pullets seems to be broody. She is 8 1/2 months and has been sitting on the nest for 2 days. I haven't fussed with her yet to know for sure but Ill check back with her later this afternoon. If she is broody how many Silkie eggs can she comfortable cover? And also what is everyones experience with Silkie roosters having access to the broody area and also the chicks once they hatch?

should i build a big chicken proof enclosure or something? what can i do to make sure gabby and cottonball dont get picked on?

Only you can make the determination of what will work for you and your flock. If you have only two Silkies they will get picked on by the larger flock eventually. For 3 years I've been trying to integrate LF with my Silkies and the only compatible breed so far has been our Ameraucana. Had to rehome 2 Legs and 1 Marans that were way too aggressive for the little Silkies - we tried to separate them but the LF kept flying to join the separated Silkies. If you separate your flock into gentle vs. LF then make sure your gentle birds (Silkies, Polish, EEs) get as much foraging room as the assertive LF breeds. Just because a chicken is a slightly smaller breed doesn't mean you give them less space. My Silkies need just as much foraging yard as the LF I've had.
Next year we're getting two lightweight Breda that are gentle with Silkies from all reports of people's experiences. If we can't get Breda then it will be lightweight Dominiques who are another calm nurturing breed. We need a couple more egg layers that are a gentle breed that mix well with Silkies. We aren't getting another Amer or EE because the one we have is so noisy above and beyond any other breed we've had. She is extremely tame, sweet, and non-combative but her only drawback is her noisy cackle. Others have said their EEs are very sweet good birds but very noisy too - especially their egg song. Our cottage backyard is too small to separate into two separate foraging areas so we have to have one good gentle integrated flock to share the little space we have. Half the yard is taken by raised garden beds. Eventually we will take one bed out to make more room for the hens and move one garden bed to the front yard. We all have to do what works best for us and our flocks.

My beautiful daughter holding her favorite chicken, Betty the Silkie. Betty will run right up to her and my daughter loves to hug her. :)

Awww that's so cute!

I have 3 Roos too...mine seem to get along rather well! My oldest Roo does all the crowing.

The two Silkie roosters each have their own flock so its a crowing match every morning, plus my top hen in my large fowl flock crows haha I don't have a Rooster in my large fowl flock so she gives it her best shot. She will get up on top her stump and crow away lol it's not the best crow and sometimes I wonder if its one of the juveniles starting to grow but nope just Heidi. Her crow doesn't bother us tho shes further away from the bed room window.

That's neat and speaking of that I have two hens that try to crow also it's funny to watch lol it threw me off at first but we are okay with it they aren't that loud

Would anyone be interested in a silkie cockerel? I have a blue bearded silkie that is show quality. He is extremely sweet and needs a loving home. His name is Mystery and he loves people and is never aggressive. Mystery is a little over 3 months. He is $5 or for trade for a silkie hen. I am located in PA. Here he is with one of my hens:

I have a few chicks I can't keep, some showgirl. If anyone near Austin tx wants them. We're northwest of Austin about 45 min. One is splay legged but still managing to eat and drink. Probably my fault for not turning the eggs when I got lazy with incubating.
