Silkie thread!

All these baby pics make me want chicks now! I talked to the first grade teacher at our school who hatches chicks in the spring for her class and she's going to include a few eggs from our hens in her hatching. I can't wait to see what a silkie X EE and a silkie X black tailed white japanese bantam will turn out like.

Here are the 3 chicks I hatched for the NYD hatch-a-long. The porcelain chick is turning a beautiful soft apricot color. I am thinking it and the lavender chick are cockerels and the partridge chick a pullet based on their temperaments. The partridge screams when I pick it up, but the lavender and porcelain are quiet and mellow.

Absolutely adorable. And how did you get them pose like that? As soon as my camera comes out my chickens all run in different directions so all I get are a bunch of rear ends...LOL.

I get that question a lot

I put them on the counter and back them up against the wall, pushing them back if they try and run out of place. Depending on the breed, some photo sessions work out better than others

Now I'm REALLY impressed! They're all gorgeous! I have to ask...the second photo from the top of the 5 gray and brown chicks...what breed are they? The first of my NN hatchlings looks almost exactly like that, feathered shanks/feet and fully feathered neck, white spot on the head and all. The breeder insisted it's pure NN, but I've had my doubts. Now I really have my doubts.
