Silkie thread!

Thank you, here's hoping she's going to be okay. I put a call into a vet 60 miles away waiting for her to call back now. She's been laying some huge eggs lately too, I've been saving them up if she is healthy she just might get those eggs under her yet.
LOL
Might be posting baby pics in a month instead of going to the Vet with a sick hen!
That's wonderful news.
Here's one to drive Fancy coo coo! "The rounder the egg! The more possibilities it will be a hen!"

OHHH Too Funny!
You sure had me going with a new thing there!

When my husband first started texting! He sent me a message saying: "Boss is going to the doctor in Tahiti!" Say WHAT? We live in Arkansas! He replied back with a lot of cussing the autocorrect!

Haha, there have been many conversations on this site in relation to pointy eggs being Roos. I would have to agree with the majority , OLD WIVES TALE !
I'm quite sure the hatcheries would be onto it if there was any truth in it.

A slow crop can be a sign of other health issues. Try her on some sardines in olive oil. Before you set any eggs , crack a few open. If they are larger than usual they might be double Yolkers . It's not advisable to set them if they are. The hen releases the same amount of calcium for each egg layed so the bigger the eggs are the thinner the shell. That is when you run the risk of eggs breaking internally and causing impaction or peritonitis.

I got them to actually look somewhat in my direction! ;) The 'baby' is in the top two pics and she is growing out to be a stunning girl! She could use more foot feathering, but she got that from her mother, who isn't very heavy on foot feathering either. The mother is the third pic. Love her round figure, and she is a natural poser.
They are absoulutely stunning!!!

I am thinking about a couple of Silkie pullets. How much room do they need to live well? I have a small prefab coop and attached run that I am not using.
I've had four in my little coop, the run area is 32x72" with a 32x 45" house attached, It was a bit tight for the run, sleeping quarters were just fine though. I Do let them out daily to range the yard, forage and get some excercise. If I had to keep them in there full time I'd only keep three in there. These small coops are hard even for silkies to spread their wings out and stretch.
