Silkie thread!

5 days, wing wise they all have short and long feathers so I don't think I can sex these that way.
They are to young to even guess, well we would have a 50/50 shot of being right. It took me til mine was about 10-12 weeks before I finially got it right. I kept flip flopping.

So funny, years ago I got my first set of Silkies in hopes for having them brood. Well my Broodies have never been a Silkie! Haha Go figure!

Finally I have my first broody Silkie!! 3 years later! Lol!

I'm so happy!

Look at the way a rooster stands, guards , watches out for hens calls them to treats but watches for danger while the rest eat. Has a Mohawk hairdo . Seems to have more upright posture. I seem to see this at 3-4 weeks except for the hairdo. Also when the big giant hands reach into the brooder. Look to see who calls out the warning for the others to run hide. Also the males begin to do the most chest bumping. Tie a piece of blue pipe cleanser to these birds leg. You will begin to see saddle feathers and hackles at about 4 months. Also take a juvie to a rooster they have not been raised with. He will dance only if the girl is old enough to mate. But will often challenge a male even at a young age. A young male may be put in his place for crowing and never crow again around older males. But given his own hens away from other roosters, he will act like a randy dude in a harem. Even at a Silkie show you will see many experts scratch their heads. If you are waiting for pullets to lay, and you get an egg put food coloring in nostrils. Yellow does not show up. The color will be deposited on her egg.

I noticed that when I patted my silkies on their backs when they were 4-5 weeks old the girls would squat down a little, whereas my roo never did even if I pressed down on his back. Early on we also saw that he had a really big comb, much bigger than the girls and he was noticeably bigger than the girls even at a young age. So I would say look at how the comb grows out and how they behave! I read up a lot on how the feathers and stuff grow differently but I couldn't tell by that since there were more obvious signs to me

Ok, trying to guess how many Roos and how many pulleys. Guesses are appreciated. They are 5 days old.

Thanks!

Try posting pics in 10-12 weeks, even then without knowing the parent stock, mine would only be an educated guess.

This is so adorable I had to post it...We have a pair of Golden Sebreights, Bonnie and Clyde that we had sit on some silkie eggs...Turns out., Bonnie is the best mommy and last night it was so cute as they all lay down and they still all cuddle around mommy even though they're almost as big...
