No actually they aren't silkie crosses I'm waiting for my Silkies to start to lay again, they stopped laying during winter... these eggs are buff Orpington crosses and black austrolorp crossed with cornish rock crosses.
no I didn't smell anything bad they seem to be doing good I'm just freaking out I guess

What type of bator?
So... am I crazy. I was reading on the early crowing silkies.... has anyone ever noticed a 3 day old going through the physical motions of crowing ( looks like it should be crowing but no sound ) and if so...did that chick grow to be a roo ? Just curious
If I saw a chick doing that I'd assume that it was adjusting its crop and perhaps hadn't worked the water system out. I teach all of mine to drink as I have seen them die as a result of dehydration.
Have you calibrated the temp ? Mine was running 3 degrees lower than it was reading.
