Hello fellow silkie owners, I'm from n.c. Have my first batch of little fuzz balls, I've been searching my local tsc for more, but chick days are almost over, I didn't want to go thru a hatchery because I really don't want to get 25 chicks and like to pick colors, I lucked up and found 1 blue chick, unsure on gender id really love to get 3 more, 2 black, and 4 splash chicks. I handle mine everyday in hopes of sweet tame babies, I believe all mine are bearded, they have fluffy cheeks. I have 6 now, 1 blue, I think a partridge its got a little black mask and its reddish brown with darker places on its body so far its wing feathers look stripped, 2 black 1 has a little yellow feathering on its feet, one has a little white spot under its beak, 1 looks white instead of yellow, and one is 2 tone dark yellow light yellow I assume they will just be white which is fine with me, one is vaulted I hope that doesn't affect its quality of life. Does anyone have any ideas how I could get a smaller batch instead of going thru a hatchery? I paid $3.00 each for them, they were in with the bantams but aren't they bigger? My dads neighbor has silkies in with brahmas and those are pretty big. I'd like to raise some chicks from them when they're older, if I don't end up with all roos since they were straight run, I'm thinking my blue and partridge are roos, I've been seeing a lot of chest bumping and chasing, they are in with a D'Uccle, 2 black clean legged unknown and a white with green legged unknown, I know one of my black in the group is a too comb already red tail held high and he struts, hopefully the 2 silkies are just picking who is dominate in not sure. I'd really love to get a few more so I can have a flock of just silkies to themselves, so far all are skiddish except my 2 black ones they were the youngest when I got them, still had egg tooth, barely any feathers on there wings a week after getting them, these 2 are so sweet I can hold them they don't try to get away they don't cry out, they will even stretch out and lay down in my hand. I love how tiny they are. If anyone could help me get some new chicks id appreciate it a lot, they won't be eaten or anything, I just really like the colors

none of these are to eat or anything just 2 breeds I like and I want to get as chicks so I can raise inside at first and get used to me, I just want them for pets and eggs. I'd like a pair of ee bantam too, anyway thanks for reading my long post and any help would be appreciated. I don't have an incubator so I can't hatch eggs yet, I have an adult bantam hen and rooster, they were given to me but I don't know if the hen would hatch eggs, they're old and not tame, the rooster has huge spurs even for a bantam, they were the last 2 of a flock and I was asked to take them being the animal lover I am I took them to live out the rest of there lives. The roo is funny he crows all the time night and day. Thanks everyone

On the buy, sell, trade forums Papa Brooder sells chicks. You could message him about silkie chicks. I hear nothing but good things about him. Congratulations on your silkies! I adore mine :)

my first silkie egg from my own flock! I found it yesterday morning and got another one later yesterday afternoon. I'm SO excited! I believe my oldest white hen, Sugar, is the culprit. If I put them in my bator does white on white always hatch white? And if one is bearded and one isn't is it a 50/50 if the chick will be bearded?

my neighbor saw my happy dance and told me he might have to get chickens because he's never done a dance in front of the egg display at Walmart
