Silkie thread!

I'm going to see a breeder today that breeds silkies. Hoping to buy some. Wish me luck! From what I hear I just must have one.
Good luck! And imo yes they're a MUST lol personality plus! And I just adore mine

In a couple of weeks I'm getting a couple of silkie chicks, and I have a few questions, is there any way to sex them, I've heard they are one of the hardest chicks to sex?, how often do they go broody? And how many can they sit on? And any other tips, on keeping them would really appreciate it

Thanks :) Reece

Both my silkies just turned out to be roosters. One had been crowing for about a month, the other just started today. I had a couple threads going on here to help figure out the sex and everyone thought they were BOTH pullets. Best advice is that you just won't know until they either start crowing or laying. Good luck.

Ok thanks :) how often do they go broody, and how many can they sit on, to receive a good hatch rate(making sure they all get warm etc)

My brroody hen, Pom Pom, is currently sitting on about 10 eggs, give or take. She voluntarily took them. (She hatched one yesterday! It's so cute. I didn't see it till today.) she appears to be covering all the eggs, except for the occasional one that gets pushed out too far.
She has gone broody about six times in the past two years. She's hatched a single chick 4 of 6 times. Hopefully this time more will hatch

I would keep an eye out in their personality. That's probably the best way to sex silkies. Also, keep an eye on the tail feathers. Females are typically more "poofy", while the guys have thinner taller feathers.

It's not good for them to get wet. THeir feathers aren't waterproofish like most other chickens.

I have a quick question and will post pics at a later time but I am not a patient person LOL. I have silkies hatching in my incubator and 2, so far, look silver-ish but the ends of the feathers are buff (red). Mom was either black or splash and dad is buff. What color does this sound like or did I just make a mess with breeding those colors together?
