Silkie thread!

Something like this, depending on the quality of the parents:

Or this (she's a frizzled Silkie):

Or this:

Or you can just get regular Silkies. I've been breeding Sizzles for a while, love them! Yours is probably a frizzled Silkie if its got Silkie feathers

Wow, that first chick is so adorable! I think mine is a frizzled silkie though because she/he has a few curly feathers but still has the soft fur-like feathers. Does anyone have pictures of frizzled silkies?

I've read somewhere where someone said that because silkies are so tiny they can drown in the egg when hatching if the humidity is too high. Is that true? My humidity in my Octagon Eco 20 is at 50%. But I have 12 duck eggs in there as well. Opinions?

Drowning inside the egg is not breed related. Once the chick has ' pipped ' internally it is in danger of drowning if it is rolled around before it ' zips'
Hence, the reason to stop turning eggs on day 18.

I just checked my broodies again. I pulled 2 adorable little partridge chicks out and placed them in the brooder. But, I also found a poor little blue outside of the nest. I thought it was dead when I picked it up, but it moved a tiny bit. So, I stuck it in my bra and rushed it inside. I warmed it up with the blow dryer the best I could and put it in the incubator for now in hopes that it'll come back around. Its not looking good though :hit It is moving a bit more now, but its pretty floppy and doesn't seem to be able to lift its little head :/

See if you can get a few drops of warm sugar water in her.

At this stage warmth is the most important thing. Once it looks a little better a few drops of save a chick will perk it up.

Its crawling around the incubator and peeping now! I'm going to give it a few hours to steady out, then I think it'll be okay to go into the brooder with its siblings :D
I really thought it was a gonner. Usually if I find floppy chicks doing that pitiful gasping thing, they don't make it. But, I think this little one will be alright. My daughter is calling it Zombie Chick ;)

Do any of you guys have any guesses on the genders of these three? I bought them from my breeder at 8 weeks old, and now they are about 14 weeks. I swear the first is a cockerel because his comb is huge and he's got so little feathering. The second looks so much like a girl, but i'm not so sure anymore. The last I have no idea.
I probably can't keep any of them if they are all boys because I am keeping their big brother for my black pen this year.
