Silkie thread!

I would say looking at her ' down ' plumage that she is a blue.

Thank you. This complicates things a little bit, but good to know. Her clutch mates were paints. I am assuming this means that she is split to paint. Would I be correct?

Love your babies! I love how purebred silkies look and also love mixes. I hope to have some of my iwn polish silkie crosses next year. And love your names. I decided since it is raining today my assignment is to get pictures posted. We have a black sizzle chick named River Song (any Dr. Who fans?). Feathers going everywhere so darn cute! 5 toes but she has so many curly feathers on her feet that you can barely find them! We also have a paint named Olaf. Pretty sure that name will stick even if Olaf is a girl!
Just wanted to post pics of my Silkie/Silkie cross chicks. The lady we bought them from also had Polish Crested bantams, and possibly another kind of chicken, but I'm not sure? She said she was low on the purebred Silkies, so we said we were ok with crosses. We have 8 in all (bought 6 and got 2 extra just in case - but they are all alive as of right now! Yay!) So, here are my babies! Feel free to speculate about them, or just enjoy their cuteness, because they are definitely adorable! I am so excited for them to get bigger. :D They are so tiny right now. Doodle (5 toes and leg feathering, feathers appear normal rather than silkie) Dumpling (5 toes, leg feathering, very puffy crown/beard, feathers appear normal rather than silkie) Olaf/Gloria - (depending on sex) (This is one of the "spares", and the one we were told specifically is a Polish Crested, but has 5 toes) Puff (4 toes, no leg feathering, skin appears light, and feathers appear normal, but has a very puffy crown and beard) Tux (The other "spare," this is one of the largest chicks, feathers appear normal, but has 5 toes, and leg feathering) Jubilee (Our lightest chick with leg feathering, 5 toes, and silkie feathers) Pepper (This chipmunk-striped cutie has 5 toes, leg feathering, and silkie feathers. I can't wait to see what she looks like when grown!) Raven (The closest to black that we have, although I'm pretty sure s/he is blue, 5 toes, leg feathering, silkie feathers)

Hi guys, all of your silkies look absolutely beautiful.
My partner has just revealed to me that his friend is a breeder and I'm now going to be a mama to two baby silkies. That's literally as much as I know.
I have done some research but I'd like some real accounts of what I will Deffinatley need and the dos and donts.
U all seem very well seasoned and I haven't kept chickens since I was a little girl.
Can any one help me please? Many thanks xx

I got about 24 silkies eggs in my incubator n out power went off last night for 2 hrs do u think they will be ok r they got cold n died

There all on different days since I only get 1-2 eggs from my flock I'll have to count Wat day there all on when I get a chance

I have a couple questions:
1. Is there any problem with silkies getting wet in summer? I have a mister I use to cool my chickens on hot summer days. Actually I used it already this year when it got to 86 here after being 32 three days earlier and they were all roasting.
2. What are the 2 vitamins silkies are often deficient of? Selenium and ?? Is it something you give them regulary? How often, how much and how do you administer it.

Thanks!

Awww your babies sound adorable too. Can't wait to see the pictures. :)
None of mine have legs as fluffy as I would have wanted, but that's ok - I adore them anyway. They are all so cute and have their own personalities already!
I took them outside today for about 10 minutes to get some exercise, sunshine, and hopefully pick up some grit. They love running around in the grass, and thankfully they stick pretty close to me. Puff was being ornery though, and running anytime I tried picking him/her up. :p Silly baby.
I love the name Olaf and I think it should stay whether s/he is a girl or not, but my partner named it, and says it will be Gloria if it's a girl. We'll see. ;)
