Silkie thread!

These are my 7 new babies. These four are blue & 1 week old.

They're so tiny all 4 fit in my hand.

These are about 2 weeks old. 1 light blue and 2 splash

Apparently the flash was on and the light blue one got scared and jumped straight up in the air LOL.

Very cute!!! I think I have 1 blue and 1 black? Mine will be 3 weeks old 7/17. The blue one is few days older than the black chick. I did notice since they have gotten there feathers the color has changed. Also do you think you can tell sex so young? I swear my black chick looks like roo with his head fluff.

This is when I first got them

Now

Love them! They all have such nice crests! My birdies crests look like eh.
Thanks I love them too

I don't think it's their crests tho I think it's cause they have vaulted skulls. I got 11 total, but the other 4 are showgirls. Out of the 11 I think they all have vaulted skulls except for one of the showgirls.

This is the non-vaulted skull one.

You can really see the difference between the vaulted and non vaulted in this picture. I think I've read on a few threads that they can both (vaulted or non) have really nice big crests.

I think they look like a dark blue and a splash to me.

What about his head fluff looks like a boy to you? I would say you probably can't sex them yet for about at least another 3-4 weeks ... some of them you can't tell until they either crow or lay an egg. Silkies are tricky lol.

They're very cute

You would think Marek's is a worthy research due to it's about a vaccine that prevents cancerous tumors-something humans can benefit from. Did I hear correctly that Marek's research was the reason that young girls now get a vaccine to prevent a uterine cancer?

Wait. Young girls are being given vaccines because of Mareks? Isn't Mareks limited to fowl only? What is the age range of the young girls being given this?

I believe you are referring to the hpv vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. There are hundreds of strains of hpv. Some are asymptomatic for the rest of your life, but some strains cause cervical cancer, some may cause sterility. Last I remember, it is recommended that females age 12 and over receive this vaccine because of the rarity of adverse effects and the tremendous potential to prevent something devastating.

Perhaps the Mareks vaccine and carcinogenic virus was the model for hpv research? I hadn't heard that, which is no surprise, as human medicine usually avoids giving credit to veterinarians and animal scientists.

There are many different types of vaccines, many different additives and preservatives used, which can also be avoided. The autism thing was a blatant hoax though. Anyway, every medical decision must be weighed, risks vs. benefits, and every situation is different. It's all of our individual jobs to research those risks and benefits to the best of our ability.

As for disease resistance, there are more beyond efficient immune response. Example, men are completely immune to cervical cancer because they have no cervix. Therefore, no benefit from the hpv vaccine.
