Silkie thread!

I have tried to put food and water in with her, she won't touch it. I will pick up the poly vi sol tomorrow. I was able to get her to eat some oats with poly vite powder on it.

If you have poly vite already you don't need polyvisol. It would only be doubling up . Polyvisol is only recommended when nothing else is open, there's always a chemist open. A good poultry multi vitamin like avian super pack or nutridrench is something that everyone should keep in their first aid. I give a multi vit during and after a molt and of course in the event of illness. Make sure her water and feed are close by .

ya i think i only like white just because they look more like little fluff balls, but these ones will do me till next year.

I breed both, but I am a little partial to partridge.

Hi @Fancychooklady - I suggested the Poly-Vi-Sol because @sara1226 couldn't get her little girl to drink the water but still a good point to mention that there shouldn't be doubling up just in case she starts drinking the water too. Poultry products are always good but its good to know the alternatives when the poultry products aren't working. In our case we have some hens that drink a lot of water and others you never see taking in more than a little sip. For us we like to know a broody/molting/or ill bird is getting at least a drop or two of children's vitamin per week because as sara1226 says you sometimes can't get a bird to drink/eat enough to get good nutritional intake.

Thanks again for mentioning the products and applications. It's so nerve-wracking as a newbie to deal with Silkies and then one day all their little peculiarities suddenly become so routinely "normal" -

It's a pity there is such a big pond between us, I would love to have a coffee with you.

I just know that we could talk up a ' chicken storm ' .

DH and I have often thought the same!!!

He has become a chicken man through and through himself - he came back from the supermarrket where he was exchanging stories about our chickens after they commented on his "How to pick up chicks" shirt and the miniature B12 chewables he was buying for our new juvenile Breda!!!

The last time we were at Trader Joe's a basket of blueberries was dropped by a customer in line - we asked the attendant not to throw them out, that we'd take the spill home, wash them, and give them to our chickens. They were happy to see the little basket not go to waste

because obviously they couldn't re-sell the broken container.

Yep, I bet you've got a lot of coffee break stories to share

Smiles!

As India's M. Ghandi stated before - a nation can be judged by how well it treats its animals.

Buffy is the one furthest from the camera.

Now 10 weeks old and the earlobes are coming in so excited to see the turquoise!
something is on its mouth

I might go with the athletes foot cream that looks like ring worm to me. JMO!

Hi! All your pictures make me jealous ive wanted a silkie for ages!! i'm thinking of getting one to go with my polish hen. I thought silkie becuase they have afros too

also i thought another chicken might help her start laying and keep her outside and acting more like a normal chicken (she thinks shes a dog

) she was 2 this year and im not sure wether to get a silkie the same age or to hatch my own. I hatched harriett (my hen) and shes really friendly and loves to sit on my lap and have cuddles, i'd like another chicken with the same sort of attitude would that mean id have to hatch one or are most silkies like that??

Yeah, that's the problem with BYC. All the members have the cutest chickens and soon you find yourself with a long list of all the breeds you want XD

I'm glad she's doing better! I have 5 chicks coming in the mail this week, I've never ordered on line before I just hope they all arrive okay. I'm so nervous! Wish me luck!
