Silkie thread!

White is pretty....if you going to Hatch you won't know what color you will
hatch.  Whites have recessive genes.

Blue:  they most times are DARK and almost black.  Not pure blue.

Buff:  is a NEAT chicken.  And you hope for NO black in tails. That is smut.
Nice fore pet ...but not for show.

There is Splash.  Sometimes hatch splash white, splash gray etc.

All Colors are FINE.  A mixed Flock is pretty to admire.

Good Luck.  Regards, Aria

P.S.  I have Buff, White, Blue, Splash

:goodpost:

The buff I had had black in their tails. They were from Meyer Hatchery, FAI (for anyone's information  )

My favorites are probably blues and splashes, the latter of which I have yet to get.

I just hatched a dozen eggs I bought. They are a week old. Any guesses on their colors? They all were white at birth. A couple are still very white, one is white with a very light yelloish color at the head, one is turning a blue grey color, and one has stripes on its back.

After a 5 year hiatus because of college and frequent job moves I've been able to get back into breeding and showing some birds. I've never worked with silkies before but ended up with a pretty nice pair recently. I'm wondering if someone could tell me what actually counts as a fifth toe, the cock has a almost completely separated digit, but the hens (pictured) is somewhat conjoined, would this actually count as a toe to a show judge? Thanks!

Wow share some pics
I think i've got a few from when he was little. For the longest time ive thought he was buff! But he had all the stuff you described, the black lacing in the Tail and Crown, and the osprey wing tips. I think my favorite pictures of him of the black and whites that i did, but ive got plenty to share of him ^-^ The black in his crown always came up near the back of his head, under all the front stuff, so i appologize if it isnt visible in the pictures XD

Such a majestic picture

the majestic chicken looks down upon the hooman scum like me XD

the sunlight suits him <3

what a model XD

hes got a thing with shadows....

when he chiped his beak, and he looked like a vampire for halloween

he mumbled something... im sure it was about "No flash photography"

he tried to eat me.

shadows. he loves them.

he looks good against plaid.

curious face

he was such a sweet bird.

posing

plaid

loves being held

plaid again

teenage akward stage pictures XD this was before any of his black came in on his wings, crown, and tail.

The 5th toe is the extra "thumb" attatched. they usually look for feathering as far as the 2nd toe, your bird seems to have it all the way to the "thumbs". definitely looks like a show bird foot!. As far as conjoining "thumbs" go, I have no experience in wether that would affect scoring at a show.

Buff sound like a great one to have, but the local feed store doesn't control its breeding very well. it just seperated the breeds during the spring, and they...well...... have at it XD So I doubt ill get a pure breed show buff silkie hen XD. I was also thinking Porcelain as ive heard they are a greyish cream. Lavender would be beautiful too.... gosh im having a hard time with this XD

I have this Silkie, about 5 months old, and I'm wondering the gender, I'm leaning on the rooster side, but you can never be totally sure with young silkies, what do you guys think? Oh and the two other white silkies are his/her mom and dad and the partridge is his nanny who hatched him
