I have a Great show quality white Cockerel and a black Silkie hen. What is the outcome of a white Silkie male crossed with black hen?

Mating White to any other colour is unpredictable . In order to get splash you need to breed blue to blue and even then your probabilities aren't that high.

White crossed with any other color is very unpredictable - white is a masking color; the bird may physically appear white, but it's genetically another color. The only way to be sure what color it is hiding is either to know his ancestry or to test breed him. It is worth noting the black is a very dominant color when crossbred; so there's a decent chance the offspring will be black or black with leakage. But again, it's totally dependent on what color he's hiding.

Also note note that the offspring will carry the white gene - it's a recessive (the one found in Silkies is, anyways) and so they will all carry the single copy and not show it. So if you bred the offspring to each other or back to a white bird, you could also produce varying amounts of white offspring.

No offense but this is inaccurate. A Splash can only be the result of a Blue X Blue, Blue X Splash, or Splash X Splash breeding. It's the result of the bird being homozygous for be Blue gene and is not in any way affiliated with the white gene(s).

Sooo, now I want a splash silki hen, where do I find this silki and how do I get it to Ohio?

Hello,

I am trying to find giant Silkies. I know that people saw then, but I could not find them. My largest hen is 2.4 pound.

I want to breed new standard breed that would be as broody as Silkies.

Finally I started crossing Silkies with standard Cochin (both ways). Now I have middle size 6 months old hybrids. From my preliminary crossing i think that broodiness in not a dominant trait. I am not sure, of course.

Now I need to cross hybrids with each other hoping to see that their progeny will bring some birds that gets broody 2-3 times a year. I have 4 hybrid roos and 5 hybrid hens.
May be I have to cross back to original Silkies parents, hoping that larger size stays.

I am still looking for large silkies? anybody have them? Or anybody want to help me with this project? I've never breed chickens (only indoor flowers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Giant silkies? I know there are standard sized silkies, but they're not available in the US to my knowledge.

Hello, I have 3,'3 month old silkies and 12 7 week old laying breeds. They have all been together since the layers were 2 weeks old and I've had no issues with them getting along. My problem is that at night, all the layers go inside the coop on their own, but the silkies prefer to sleep in a pile under the ramp. I have to go out there every night and put them in. They have no problem navigating the ramp during the day, I see them going in and out. How do I get them to go in? I bought an automatic door to install but it's not going to work if they don't go in!

Try putting a light inside and once they go in turn off the light u can do it every night if u want

Mine did that as well. I had to pick them up one by one and place them inside the coop
