like this? This is me holding one of my silkies I had. Is that the "judges hold?"

Not quite... here is a "judge hold" (lol didn't know it had a name until now) on one of my Ko Shamo pullets

Red clay.... North Carolina or further south?
In in nc and we red dirt I can't keep my white horse white. Lol he like to be red!!!
So I know the feeling!

Further west actually! Foothills of Northern California. All the dirt is red clay, and with all this rain lately we've got a few rivers and lakes on the property - the stuff really holds water!

I didn't really think west lol. My world for me is like the south east. I sometimes forget it's bigger!!!! Lol!
I hope the wet weather clears for y'all soon and things dry out!

:thumbsup Ok, thanks. I just about have it. It's hard to see because of all the fluffy feathers

You almost have it, just need to slip your hand further under so the legs don't dangle. Once you have mastered it you can gently place your other hens on top to keep the wings down. :)
:) Aqesome, thanks.

Aw! And here I had my hopes up it was a real color. Silly dirty chickens.

Hmm... we have red clay around here too. Maybe I should get myself a couple Splash ladies!

:gig Well, I think some people do breed calicos. I'd imagine you could mix splash and buff or partridge to get a splash bird that has red/gold leakage....

Does anyone know what color this silkie is? It came from good quality buffs, but I have no clue

I get chicks like this occasionally. The best I can describe their color would be wheaten  They're definitely not partridge, but not buff either. Since mine are in a mixed pen that has blue in it, mine usually end up a pretty buff color with blue, black and splash leaking through. I'll try to snap a couple of pictures today of some of my older chicks that started out like your baby.

These are the MOST beautiful Silkies I've ever seen.
Wished I live near you. Not too many Silkies
that look like yours in New York State. Regards, Aria
