Silkie thread!

Hmmm. Interesting. Has it only happened with your black or have others ended up with rust color feathers? I'm trying to remember if any of my others ever did. I feel like I had a blue that did, but I'm not positive.

I have just two Silkies - a Black & a Partridge. The rust color is noticeable on the Black Silkie but since my Partridge is multi-colored we don't notice any feather rusting or fading because of her variegated Partridge pattern.

Star (White), Shooting Star (Black) and KFC (speckled) just passed two weeks...They are so sweet.

Thank you for the article! I actually read it earlier. It was more about the first paints in America and the original breeding that led to them. I already have the paints. I just didn't know if breeding paint to paint would dilute the coloring. This is my first time breeding paints. I usually stick to BBS and white silkies.

Here's the paint chart.

So today I heard my 11 week old white Silkie make her very own chicken noise and not just a cheeping sound I felt like a momma hearing her baby say her first word lol. I do have other larger hens but it was just funny to hear this big voice out of a tiny little thing. My DH was working on the new coop and when he heard her he wanted to know who was making all that noise I told him it was coming from her and he was amazed he said and I quote "she's making that noise" I said yes and he just shook his head. Lol. oh those precious moments

Silkies are definitely endearing little chickens. I was glad to find my DH loves them so much he doesn't want to ever be without a couple in our backyard. Because Silkies are small and gentle I had to plan our other breed additions to be in the gentle category. We found Breda and Ameraucana good gentle flockmates with Silkies. We had Leghorns and Marans but they were too aggressive and heavy birds so we re-homed the bigger breeds when they started to bully.

I've got 1 white Silkie pullet who is 13 weeks old and I'm going to work on rebuilding my little flock this week. I have a meeting setup tomorrow with a lady who has different breeds to choose from, and I'm wondering what are some breeds that are easier to integrate with Silkies? She is fairly small, but has been around big boys (until yesterday as they all got a new home), but I'm still slightly wary of bigger breeds for her sake.

TIA!

I have all bantams with my Silkies. Belgian D'uccles, Pekin, Bantam Faverolles and a Bantam Araucana :)
