Silkie thread!

Just to clarify, for those that don't know, amprolium is the active ingredient in corid.
When using amprolium it's is advised to use the full treatment dose for 5-7days, then halve the dosage for a further 5-7days followed up by halving the dose again for a final week. By doing this you are not only treating but you helping the birds to build immunity.

And this thanks to Kathy.

Great clarification! :thumbsup

Sorry, I was in middle of things so the chart was all I could post at the time... and it is courtesy of Kathy as well, lol... :)

Quote: In the US we have at least three amprolium products, Corid, Amprol, and AmproMed, and dosing is the same for all three.

20% Powder = 1.5 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, though 7 days is also okay, then 1/3 teaspoon per gallon for another 7-14 days.
9.6% Liquid = 2 teaspoons per gallon for 5 days, though 7 days is also okay, then 1/2 teaspoon per gallon for another 7-14 days.

No worries. I used the description amprolium in my original answer as we don't have corid here in Aus. Things can get lost in interpretation.

I totally understand... and I just wanted to make sure they got proper dosage info, lol... :)

Thanks Kathy :)

My new batch of silkies- about 5-6 weeks old. A couple of partridge (one might be gray partridge), some white and a few paint and one naked neck. . The girl above is mom to at least some of the chicks. She developed a lot more spots as she grew so I'm excited at how big the dark patches are on #1. I think he/she will be a nice loud paint. The mom looked a lot more like the chick in the front of picture#4 at that age.

Super cute spots! Looks like you have a couple showgirls there!

Thanks, DarkBlueSpace. One showgirl chick in this batch and the black showgirl in the foreground is Broody Mom (likely the showgirl chick is related to her) but the rest are probably the other hen's eggs. I don't have a paint roo so I'm assuming the paints are from my paint hen, but maybe not. And I don't have a partridge old enough to lay, so who knows who they came from. I've got blacks, blues, paint, kind of an off porcelain-ish (my avatar), a champagne, and white so anything is possible.

I see she is a hen now, I just saw the silhouette of her long slender naked neck! ;)

I just hatched 5 chicks, or rather my broody did, but even though she has been an amazing mother, she attacked my little lavender showgirl chick. I wonder if it seemed alien to her as she has never hatched silkies before. She nearly scalped the poor thing but it seems to be recovering alright. I still feel sick about the whole event. I did get four lavender chicks, one of which is a showgirl, and one black showgirl!
