Silkie thread!

When she was a baby chick she was light gold with a grey back. We have been rasing a buff rooster with her and they have always been different colors and they are from the same source. He doesn't have the pattern on his feathers and he was also solid buff colored as a chick. But I think partridge chicks have a striped pattern as a chick. So I didn't think she was a partridge then. But I really don't have a solid idea now. I was leaning towards buff now.

Here's a picture of the roo.

And here is a bunch more pics of her. The last two were when she was about 7 weeks old.

Hi everyone! I am very new to silkies-I lucked into getting four free this past March (very beginning of March so we are almost four months old now)...I am so in love with these things it is crazy! I didn't even WANT them...EVER. BUT I justified it by figuring I'd use them to hatch out newbs for my other flock. I don't want to go down the incubator path, as I've heard such awful things about them...I think I'd get too stressed out haha!

I know silkies are notoriously hard to sex until they are older, but I have one crowing rooster-Jar Jar Beaks:

One that has to be a rooster even though he hasn't crowed-he was the 'runt' and I was told by some experts to cull him. :( I totally ignored that advice I'm not going to be breeding them...Little Marco:

Sweet little Wampa (right), who I am desperately hoping is a hen:

And Trump...This is my 'special' chicken. This one has REALLY bad eyesight-and has a tough time seeing food that is right in front of his face, but it can see below...very odd..It just started getting a little bit of reddish tinge on its cheeks....Can it be a hen?

I'm desperately hoping Trump and Wamapa are hens...If any of you silkie experts could put my mind at ease I'd appreciate it.

Oh my gosh! I love the names!!! Jar Jar Beaks is the cutest chicken name!!!! I definitely think Wampa and Trump are girls also. Trump looks sorta like my girl Chai and they are close to the same age, mine are only a month younger. All your silkies at beautiful and I am SO g!ad you didn't cull Marco!! Good job with them!

Wampa is definitely a darling little girl! Cute little round cotton puff! We never had a "Trump" but we had a Silkie Partridge boy we named "Trumpet" because he sounded like a Trumpeter Swan! Now, "Jar-Jar Beaks" is a clever name! Our newest chicken addition is going to be a Cuckoo Breda and the breeder has sent us pictures of her. We couldn't resist naming her "Her Royal Majesty Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Princess of Cambridge" after the adorable new U.K.'s royal baby -- but we'll probably just call the Breda "Char" for brevity -

Oh my gosh what a sweet name! :) I sure hope you are right about Wampa. If even only one is a hen I'll be thrilled. :) Trump has become quite the lovey. Completely stupid as all get out-but the sweetest little thing.
