It really surprised us how much the different breeds of chickens liked their baths and blow-dry's. We have one Black Silkie that will tap on the floor fan when she wants us to turn it on and then she'll position herself in front of it to feel the breeze ruffle through her feathers. She does the same thing with the blow-dryer after a tush bath and stands still as she feels the gentle blower on her feathers! Here she is giving herself a "shower" under the Brite Tap nipple valve waterer... ...and then working the cool water down to her skin using her beak! Chickens love playing in water! And many of them like to feel breezes and blow-dryers too! At our local County Fair a group of White Silkies in the farmyard piled against a big box fan to feel the hard breeze ruffling through their fluffy "fur"!!! The large fowl couldn't squeeze in to get a breeze so they stood at the back of the fan as it pulled air through from the back! There must've been 15 chickens crowded around that one big box fan,
Yeah. Just goes to show that every chicken has their own likes and dislikes, which I find really cool. One of my hens (she's not a silkie) likes to come in and stand by the AC while eating whatever she can find on the kitchen floor.

Also is there a real reason why if they take baths they cant be out side in the rain?? because me and my daughter spent two hours trying to put them in the coop yesterday because they where soak!! They just kept running out I know all my regular chikens love rain!!! apparent so do my silkies but the lady I got them from said silkies cant go in the rain or snow??? but if they love it is there a real reason behind it???

my silkies all sleep on the ground. when the roo was with the girls they all cuddled together at night.

Is this little pullet silver partridge? She's so sweet and I would love to breed her eventually. I have a Showgirl cockerel (?) the same color (I bought them from a friend of a friend, so I have no idea on parentage).

Silkies just like any chicken love water or rain. I let my Silkies out in a very light sprinkle rain but if it is really cold, windy, plus raining off-and-on, I bring the Silkies inside. Because of the type of "fur" Silkies have the water doesn't roll off the feathers like on hard-feathered chicken breeds and a cold or very rainy day soaks and chills them to the skin - poor things can look like drowned rats. The Silkies will seek shelter if there's a steady or hard rain but the moment the rain lightens up they start romping around in cold mud puddles and strutting around in cold wind. I have one Silkie with CRD issues and absolutely cannot be outside in inclement weather. If the weather is warm and the rain is light sprinkles there's no problem with allowing a little fun time outdoors but I absolutely advise against letting Silkies outdoors in regular rainy or snowy weather.
