Silkie thread!

What size nest boxes dose everyone use for their silkies?
I am currently using 12x12, and was wondering if 10x10 would be better

To me 12x12 is good in case two Silkies want to snuggle together to keep warm - I have 11x11 boxes and could use them a bit larger when two Silkies share. My Silkies have used the nestboxes to roost for the last 6 yrs.

Our Silkie from the hatchery also is NOT pretty ^.^

She's about 4 1/2-5 months old and that's how big her fluff is.....

She looks like an alert cutie! Most "non-bearded" Silkies photos I've researched seldom have very large topknots - they are still very sweet Silkies. What makes a "bearded" Silkie look very full and fluffy is when the beard and side muffs plus crest surrounds the face. My girls are backyard free-range Silkies so even if they have their full crest/beards/and muffs the fluff still gets worn down/matted/dirty from their foraging and they're hard to keep full and fluffy unless we shampoo them every week which is a waste of time since they just get dirty all over again. Because they like to dust-bathe and romp like the large fowl I don't get white Silkies (or any all-white birds) because they get dirty/dingy/yellow. I stay with the darker varieties -- Black/Blue/or Partridge Silkies.

TWO ROMPING OUTDOOR BEARDED SILKIES - MATTED, DIRTY, BUT HAPPY

Ohhh wow Silkie broody time first time so hope I am doing this right she is now by herself in a area in garage ventilation chk food chk water chk away from her nest chk. Gave her some probiotic and electrolyte in her water is that ok?? she a bit stressed has been on amd off her nest since Dec 26 I had been getting her up several times a day hand feeding her she seems shakey p.s is it normal for her friend to be picking on her being mean when they were out togeather is it going to change when she is not broody anymore

All of it sounds like normal behavior. Yes, broodies seem to either get picked on or else the opposite and can be mean. I never know what to expect when my two Silkies go broody -- one seems to get very timid while the other one gets very bold and testy. After the broodiness wears off she will be back to normal and shouldn't be picked on anymore by her friend. They will have to get reacquainted again after they've been isolated.

Very fast. Barely even notice the focusing it's so fast. It's over twice as fast as the old camera. I set it to high speed continuous on sports mode. I can easily take 20 shots in a few seconds

I upgraded from a t2i to an 80d so it's a big jump in changes.

I'll have to go digging to see the warenty time when I get home.

I finally ordered my Canon T5 because I wanted the U.S. version (warranty) and not the Internat'l version (no warranty). I was going over the training manual and I know I won't use HALF the stuff on it just like my old Nikon P&S never used all the features. I don't use social media nor do I need motion pictures so T5 will be more than I'll need to catch moving blurry chickens (I hope) with short motion clips should I want. Thx for all your help! Now, if I can just get half as good at capturing chicken poses as you do I'll be happy! @Fancychooklady takes beautiful bird photos too - TY!

The little tiny orange one in front, is only about 7 weeks old, and this fluff is bigger than hers already.

Your white without fluff..is a non bearded silkie. I have had one. I let her free range because she could...see!! She was fun to have out in the yard. I did hatch her myself. Very sweet girl.

Mine free-ranged with my turkey's and other chickens... but they picked on her and my little black one. so once I got my "pen" setup for them, i moved her to teach my other silkies how to be birds, since they were inside all winter in my daughters room.

So glad to not have anymore chickens living in my house. LOL

The upside? they are the tamest chickens ever. My rooster in the pack eats my fingers because I was hand-raising him with meal worms and teaching him tricks to keep him from being bored.

He also watched me play video games and sat on my lap. LOL

I hatched ALL of my silkies, except my 1 white one. And the only chicken she's bonded too so far, has been my little black cochin I hatched.

Thank you much for help I think it is harder on me then on her lol
