Silkie thread!

I was literally just typing up a response to you and he died so sad this is the hardest part about getting chicks. He hadn't been doing so well today. I think he had something bigger wrong than a hurt leg. I had some younger chicks in another brooder so I put them in with my grey so he isn't lonely.

Awe, yea there are always some chicks that just have something so wrong with them they can't survive.

My silkies just hatched their first baby on their own this year....

Do silkie chicks usually have a crest from the start? I'm asking because I have a little blue chick that has no crest yet. I'm not sure of her age, the person I got her from said she was between 4 - 10 weeks, (this was 2 weeks ago) but I think she's younger. She only weighs 4.5 ounces...compared to my other chick, a partridge who weighs in at 11 ounces. Her wings seem a bit long too, they hang past her butt.

How old are they probably from their sizes?

Mine have always had crests but they came from a breeder who breeds good quality birds with crests and beards. I have seen some people with hatchery grade silkies who never got crests.
