Silkie thread!

The crests are just starting to come in at that age. You can see the start of them.

Seeing actual quality takes until they grow up. I only cull for faults at early ages. It takes until they are well over 6 months for me to see who looks good. I usually wait until 8 months.

There is such thing as crests that are too big. This is too much. Poor girl walks into things all the time. Usually me as she stalks me.

She's beautiful. My chick named Rudy stalks me, looks like a mini version of your.

Give them a little time to fill out they'll be beautiful. Here is a pic of my hatchery Silkies. I couldn't ask for better mothers. View attachment 1121750 View attachment 1121752
Thanks so much for the response and your Mama's (and chicks) are darling!! If mine look anything like that, I'll be tickled. Actually, I truly already am.....they're such little sweet-peas! Thanks again!

Thank you so much fo the response. That crest really is gorgeous but I could see how it'd be a bit hard to navigate! I love that she stalks you - They're such darling lil' creatures!

I must admit - initially I just wanted a Silkie(s).....didn't really matter much beyond that. Wellllll... now, after reading, learning, and spending SEVERAL hours on this site (really....LOTS:caf! Its worse but yet so much BETTER than FB if that makes sense ;)), I've learned what a difference there can be within any chicken breed. Duh! I guess no different than any other animal or breed.

Hey everyone. Just got this silkie last night and wondering if it's a cockeral? Guessing it's over 4-5 months he/she is past the peeping age. Any thoughts?

I'll try to get a full stance picture today but he/she was too freaked out this morning.

Was able to just get these. Not great but I'm thinking cockeral. Looks like he's getting streamers to me. What do you guys think?

Definitely cockerel

Figured. Also figuring this smooth is a cockeral also?

Looks like it might be a first generation cross to a naked neck. Even showgirls have black skin and the silkie body shape as well as crest. It might not even have been crossed with silkie. Other breeds have foot feathering as well. Only definate is that it's got naked neck blood.

I'm not sure on sex. All my silkies and most of my birds are bearded. Nonbearded develope wattles differently
