just a heads up about play sand, from the hard ware or other stores, a member on here told me years ago that sand is called ((( silica sand ))) and the bag even has a warning on it..!!! its even dangerous & bad for children...!! and that can kill your birds if they eat it..! google it ...!! but i read its better if you buy construction sand thats not silica sand, so check it out on line it worth it. take care

When should i be expecting my silkies to start laying?

I have 2 male and 2 female silkies that are 5 months and 17 days old, and 15 that are 2 months and 27 days old, and i want to know if i should be expecting eggs this year during fall or winter, or will i have to wait till next spring?

Mine usually start between 28 and 32 weeks.

Hi everyone. I'm super excited I had my first incubator hatch and had 6 out of 8 hatch! I ordered eggs on line of don't know what you will get silkies or showgirls lol I did get 1 showgirl so I'm super excited lol but I'm a little confused on there colors. I can't tell if a couple are buff or white or black or blue lol I was hoping someone here could help you all have such beautiful silkies thank you

Thank you! I actually chanced it and ordered them on eBay lol I'm so in love with all of them and I was such a wreck during the whole process as to second guessing the humidity etc. I kept telling myself that if at least one hatched I'd be grateful so I was super excited when 6 did lol

Looks like white, blue, black, and splash from the pictures. I could be wrong on the white. What colors did the seller advertise?

Splash looks like white with an odd tinting to it. It's part of the blue/black/splash breeding. They are all genetically black, even if splash looks white or light grey with dark blue spots. Blue is an incomplete dominant gene that modifies black. No copy gives black. One copy gives blue. Two copies give splash.

Barely a handful of fluff. She looks so much bigger than she really is. Coloring makes for obvious sexing now. This one was from my cross colored (partridge x blue) hen. I accidentally hatched one of her eggs at New Years and was surprised how nice the pullet turned out so decided to set more of her eggs this time. I got two more blue partridge pullets from her. Their offspring should be good blue partridge.
